my dad can upgrade his phone right now, but doesnt want to, can i use his upgrade to upgrade my phone? we have verizon family plan

Yes, if you go to a Best Buy store this can easily be done in one transaction.

If you order online it can also be done, but you will have to call Verizon after you get the phone to switch the phones on the lines.

You would have to while you upgrade the phone. When you call to switch the lines (as long as your dad's phone is not a smartphone) they can take the data off.

Are you able to go to a store? It's a more seamless transaction that way.

yeah just askin for future knowledge, 1 more question, if i give my friend the smartphone i have right now, can he somehow use it with verizons prepaid cards or something?

o and because i want to get a 4g phone, will i have unlimited 4g if i have unlimited 3g right now?

As long as you continue with your unlimited data plan, you will be grandfathered in. Just don't let it get removed, it's difficult to get re-added.

As for your prepaid question, they should be able to add it to whichever prepaid plan they choose, but with an additional $30/month charge for the smartphone data. Most, if not all, markets should be on the new unlimited plans (formerly known as "unleashed") but the included unlimited data only applies to basic phones.
