i currently have the LG Octane and want to switch over to a different phone that i have purchased from a private seller. I purchased my LG Octane a year ago through Best Buy when we switched cell phone carriers.  In order to switch the information from my current phone to the one I"ve purchased, do I need to bring it to the store to have that done or am I able to take care of it over the internet.

Your service is with Verizon Wireless, so I would contact them to transfer your phone number. If you're asking about transferring things like contacts and pictures, Best Buy Mobile will charge $19.99 for a Data Transfer service. It's only free with purchase of a new mobile phone.
