I picked up my phone at my local Best Buy (Dadeland, FL #557) this morning and everything went smoothly and was quite easy.
I arrived at 6:55 (appointment at 7) and they took in the 3 people with 7am appointments, and got us all squared away in about 15 minutes. As we left, they were bringing in the people with 7:30 appointments.
Conversely my friend made a reservation at the apple store around the corner, and showed up to get in the preorder line at 6am. i went to visit him during lunch at 1 oclock and he still had about 40 people in front him, and at least 100 behind him (he was told the store got a total of 1300 phones) i walked in and bought a bumper, and left ![]()
I just wanted to post to say thank you to Best Buy for handling the preorder process the way you did, i wouldnt have been able to spend all morning waiting in a preorder line. I'll definately use BB again for my next preorder.

@PreOrderChump:
Here is the deal:
Best Buy had 1 week to place a pre-order number to Apple. Apple then had to allocate its devices already manufactured accordingly. LG Display, the company that is contracted to build the display for Apple then only had multiple problems that shutdown the line. So...Apple obviously built units before pre-orders start to have a stockpile available. Well that is the stockpile that is depleted...Apple could not possibly know how many people would pre-order. The ONLY way to have enough units ready to meet EVERY customer is to take pre-orders at least 12 months out. That is the nature of manufacturing. SO the next best system in place is what we are currently doing: Build a small stockpile, pre-order a month or a week or so before launch day and distribute the product as best as possible when they become available. There is no other way.
I ordered a 32GB (was #14 in line for that) and my wife ordered a 16GB (she was #16 in her line). They received 30 16GB's and 10 32GB's. She is getting hers but I have to wait. That is the nature of pre-order. I am guaranteed a phone. and I'm guaranteed that the 4th 32GB phone that store gets is mine. The guy who didn't pre-order doesn't have that.
Forward thinking prevents errors like selling your phone on e.Bay before you have the replacement. You should never put all your eggs in one basket. You can still sell your phone elsewhere and get decent money for it...I'm getting almost $150 for my wifes 2G....once we have her phone.
Do not blame anyone but yourself for your lack of insight. Best Buy, Apple, Wally-World, The Shack, AT&T are doing what they can with the system available. If you don't like it...don't participate. Your problem is no more important than Joe the Plumbers problem.
Blame LG Display. Looks like the Retina Display is having problems in production.

"The shortage of iPhone 4s as launch day approaches is due to limited supplies of the new Retina display, according to an industry analyst's report. CNET quotes Ashok Kumar, managing director and senior technology analyst at Rodman & Renshaw, as saying that a "production bottleneck" in the IPS LCD screen may continue to late summer. Meanwhile, customers continue to report emails from AT&T telling them that their iPhone 4 pre-orders have been canceled.
In the snowballing EPIC FAIL that is the iPhone 4 rollout, there has been a lot of blame to go around. Server issues were responsible for delay and confusion when the new iPhone first went on sale last Tuesday, and AT&T stopped taking orders early Wednesday due to overwhelming demand. As the rush continued, black iPhones were no longer available for launch day, with ship dates pushed back first to July 2nd and then to July 14th. White iPhones are reported to be delayed to later this summer or even to 2011. It's unclear how long third party retailers will have to wait for supplies, as neither RadioShack nor Best Buy is saying when they will have iPhone 4s in stock. An AT&T rep told a MMi user that Best Buy will not have any iPhones by launch day.
Kumar wrote in a letter to his clients that his "supply chain checks indicate that our earlier monthly shipment estimate of 4 million units have been reset by about half," blaming difficulty with the LCD manufacturing at LG Display, which makes the Retina display for Apple. By late summer, according to Kumar, LG will have upgraded their plants to new fifth-generation technology that will allow them to cut more screens from larger panels.
Apple will probably do fine if they can get supplies up in a few weeks: many if not most of the people who have placed pre-orders will want an iPhone 4 and onlyan iPhone 4. If shortages continue, though, expect increasing numbers of potential iPhone buyers to start looking at other high-end smartphones like the HTC EVO and the upcoming Droid X."
PreorderChump wrote:I'm glad you had a wonderful experience... I assume you posted it on here to show that there are two sides to every story? And that the pre-order through Best Buy wasn't all bad? What exactly made you think it would be a good idea to post this on here?
GOOD EXPERIENCES ARN'T SUPPOSED TO BE THE EXCEPTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stop defending Best Buy as if the people who didnt get their phones like you did are somehow in the wrong... It's pathetic that you think your story actually makes them look better, and that you think your friend is a "chump". I tried pre-ordering online starting at 1am through 7am on the 15th... no go. So then like an idiot, I went and PRE-ORDERED a JUNE 24th KICK IN THE NUTS at Best Buy for only $50!

I work for a car audio competitor near my BB location, no wonder were SLAUGHTERING you in business, you can't get anything right.
I understand you didnt get your phones you thought you were. But your employees are lying to CYA and not deal with the TS. If i saw one of my guys do that, I'd suspend him the first time, fire him the next.

People rarely post when things go well, and people are quick to post on these forums when things go wrong. I wanted to share my good experience, sorry it got you so riled up.
Nowhere in my post did i "defend best buy" and say people that didn't get their phone are in the wrong, nor did i call my friend a "chump"... stop putting words in my mouth. did you even read my post?
My friend got his phone, he enjoyed hanging out in the line and made some new friends. I got my phone set by 7:30 which was necessary for me to get to work. We are both happy campers.

I see what both of you are saying... like literally I can read the words on the page, but you're both WAY off the mark.
First dude, the one that wrote the novel, look at the other posts on here. When I found out I wasn't getting my iphone today after all I was alright with it... it's the total bs people are getting about how they "just missed" the cutoff and other crap... ALL IM asking is the REAL place in line I am, and if it's going to be a day, 3 days, a week, weeks before bestbuy gets to me. Just say "We don't know that we are getting any more at this point, it could be weeks"...
For the 2nd dude, yea you were saying all that stuff in your story... be honest with yourself. I couldnt possibly put words in your mouth, cause you're still busy choking on BB...
Get off the message board and go play with your iPhones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like I said, probably on a different thread, I preordered from Best Buy cause the MFN internet preordering had crashed all day. I PRE-ORDERED from Best Buy because they were the only ones who's systems wern't down that day where i live... that apparently was because they weren't ORDERING ANYTHING... And I have 2 best buy Gift Cards that I would never use there so I figured I'd end the life of 2 birds with one iPhone.
Trust me, I DIDNT want to go to best buy, but it was the only option... they were the only one saying they were taking PRE ORDERS. It's my own D fault for not trusting my gut, I should have just gotten the delayed july delivery online.
Why the H are you spending your time on a BB forum on your new iphone? Don't you have a life? I'm on here cause i've got nothing better to do right now other than read posts from plants like you, and nothing makes me happier to vent about the fact that Best Buy can't get their S together, and I DONT HAVE AN IPHONE 4 TO BE PLAYING WITH RIGHT NOW you Doooooochee + thing that you put groceries in...
Let's look at what we know about you anyway, here are the 4 major reasons I think you're probably a best buy employee...
1. You got somehow got your iphone 4 "flawlessly" at a Best Buy
2. You're obsessed with defending BB on it's own forum
3. You have the most popular device in recent history in your hands, on launch day, and you're using it to post messages on a BB forum...
4. You're not funny, or clever
GET A LIFE

1. I get an email every time someone replies to this thread, im not trolling the forums.
2. I dont work for BB, i also dont have a grudge against them.
3. I tried to preorder from apple.com on the 15th too, when i realized that wasn't gonna happen, i went to best buy when they opened, and got the first preorder for my store.
4. Get a life? you first

You get an email alert for replies??? WHAT A JOKE
Beamen wrote:

I made it VERY CLEAR that I already had a Grudge against them, but do you think I would be complaining if I had actually not gotten effed?

So you're telling us Best Buy is sweet because they filled 1 preorder? You're standards are really low. If you probably let the guys you date smack you around too while you tell yourself "he still loves me, he doesn't really mean it"

Like I said, you're not funny. But you're one of those introverted people that try to be. I ALREADY told you that I have nothing better to do right now, and nothing makes me feel better, than venting on BB's own forum. I'm pretty sure about 100% of the people on here feel the same way.
Prove you have a life and resist the urge to reply to this forrum again. GO AWAY

The forum, by default subscribes you to threads you create, and it emails you.
This is entertaining now. You jumped into a thread i started about a good experience i had today to spew your bitter accusations.
How is that you can tell me to get a life, when you yourself admit that you have nothing better to do?
take a deep breath, and gtfo of my thread
