Any person so very interested in the new iphone has been watching all the news from the gearing up of the great reveal and speculation to knowing how to get one! I have in fact been checking it everyday forever. I work nights and I got off work went to my local best buy to pre-order on friday and went to work another shift, ok I think if I made it a point to do so I should NOT have to make another trip and stand in line again? Did I just waste my time? I think preorders should be filled first. If you cant fill them cut it off. I live about 45 minutes one way from Best Buy. I have other avenues I could have gone such as through apple I was online at that time or a local AT&T store. But no I have been loyal to Best Buy. So If by any chance I just stood in line went with out sleep for nothing and have to do it again this week, I seriously would have to rethink all future purchases! And we were just getting ready to buy 2 new macs.

I preorder because I will be unable to get to any store at opening to purchase my iphone. I shop at Best Buy frequently and also chose to make my purchases through you even when things are cheaper elsewhere. I believe you pay for the service you received. I understand it will be a hot item and store may not get much stock, but then whats the point of a preorder. Seriously, though if this is how they will handle it and I don't get my phone by Saturday, this will be the end of my regular shopping there. What upsets me the most is the fact there was no mention of this till 4:20 pm when there was an FAQ on these forums. I swear I try to convince my family that Best buy is where to go for their needs. This may be the end of a very positive relationship with a company i had nothing but respect for. I really don't know what else to say but so long.

The whole thing that irk me about the situation is there was no notice about what they were planning to do. I am glad that I am beginning to here otherwise. I don't blame the associates who work at the stores because at two closest ones they have always been nothing but helpful. This all came from their corporate office. I happen to stop by my local store on my way to work to make the preorder. I was the 1st one to preorder and to be truthful had they put notice about how they were going to handle it, I still would have done a "reservation". While I do purchases, i like the option of a store to pick it up at. I don't care much for purchases by mail because there never a guarentee. Yes there are many other choices out there to shop at, yes some think android have better devices. I personally prefer one company to sync everything too, that is my reason why chose apple. Personally I think windows can go in the right direction but they havent been able to handle any mobile device like google and apple does. I glad they've change their mind, I ask my store how they will handle the next time I am in. I do have to say if they change it because of the outrage on the forums, I can at least applaud them for trying to make it right.
What is strange is, I have a feeling the stores won't be getting much to begin with, especially if what the rumors say are true. If 500,000 devices were preorder in the US alone from Apple, ATT, Sprint, and Verizon. Seriously what makes anyone think they will get more than 5 devices of each model. That would mean they would have about 100,000 for their 1st allotment from apple which i would doubt since the major retailer is the last to probably get them. All four of the above will have alloted amount for walk in customers, and best buy may not even get enough to satisfy all preorders.
All in All i just would have just like a heads up with there decision how to handle it.

I too, failed to check the pre-order receipt till i got home from the store. Was first in store to pre-order a sprint iphone. Receipt clearly states "expected date: 10/31/11." Wow, associate never mentioned that, just took the pre-order and said come back next friday. Would love to hear that something has changed. thanks.

bbowser - If you check your online order status you will see that the "Expected Date" could be the day you ordered it. Mine does.
Inconsistency everywhere. I didn't order from Best Buy to make sure I got it day one, I mean- that is where Apple.com comes in. One would be misguided or this is their first go around getting an iPhone on day 1. Instead, I ordered it because of other reasons (I had Best Buy gift cards). Some people may want to use their Best Buy card.
My issue is that I have no idea what their plan is. I'd like my phone sooner than later, but I have no idea when to expect it.
