It doesn't require contract.

Yes, it is locked with AT&T.

You do not have to be an AT&T customer to buy the iPhone 4, anyone can buy it but know if you are buying it without a contract you have to pay the outright price for it which will be either $600-$700 depending on the GB.

Re: Does iphone 4 from best buy have contract and it is sim locked?

Are you a worker of BestBuy?

So... if i am going to USA from ARGENTINA, i can buy it without contract, and then unlock it... i know i have to pay more for the phone...

but at BestBuy Facebook, they are replying me:

Gona - The contract of lack of a contract is between you and AT&T. We as Best Buy do not control your agreement with AT&T and will not be advising you if you can unlock a phone.

Which contract are they talking me about if i'm buying the phone for the full price and in my country AT&T doesn't exist?!?!!?

Re: Does iphone 4 from best buy have contract and it is sim locked?

Gona - Generally, AT&T, which is the sole carrier for the iPhone in the United States, does require a two year commitment to be signed at the time of purchase. That 2 year commitment is the contract. If you are to purchase the iPhone without a contract, and unlock the phone, that is completely up to you.

However, keep in mind that the unlocking of the iPhone does void the 1 year apple warranty that the phone comes with.

i know that if i unlock the iphone i "loose" the warranty, but i want to know if i go from Argentina to USA, i can buy it, for the full price, without contract and then unlock it... or BestBuy will "obligate" me to have an AT&T plan to get one... Becuase they tell me that they need an activation of AT&T of all the iphones pruchased.

I can't say for sure. Generally, you would be required to sign that contract. However, in the past, many stores have opted to sell the phone without the contract. It would most likely be up to that individual store.

Can't say for sure, that would be up to Apple, but from my experience with Apple store locations, you have to get the contract.
