Hello,
This is my first post in this forum. It seems this forum is pretty active so I have a few questions about my install coming soon. The installer in my local store is on vacation or else I would ask him. Anyways.... The installer said I needed this bypass module...
This is required for my vehicle. I noticed that there are some features with this module such as rear window defrost. My question is will the installer hook this feature up as part of the basic install if I request it? I think all it requires is some programming, very little labor intensive. Also why does he need two keys to program this?
I also have purchased the audio window break sensor. Will the installer hook this up as he's installing the system for no additional charge? I can see this being an issue if I already had the Viper system hooked up previously. Since nothing has been installed, it just makes sense to do it all at the same time and call it a "basic" install. If BB is going to charge extra then I might have to return the window break sensor because I have already spent too much money, $620 total for hardware and install.
I am also currious how BB does the wiring. Do they solder or use crimpers and shrink tubing?
Thanks and I look forward to any responses ![]()

Hi FX4Lover,
Boy, you've got some pretty involved questions. I would wait and talk to one of the car fi associates and better yet, the install bay techs. They will be able to give you a much better idea of what's all involved with your specific car and all the different things you want installed.
I'm hoping some of our other super users will post their thoughts on this.
Thanks,

From your name, should I assume that the vehicle in question is a Ford truck? The reason for needing 2 keys to program the module would be a result of Ford's design. If you have 2 keys you can program a third (which is how the vehicle "sees" the module) but if you only have one key, then you have to have some sort of "magic programming device" that pretty much only a dealership would have. As for the rear defroster question, that would be better asked of your specific Autotech since only some of the features work in some of the vehicles that the module is compatible with . The extra sensor normally would cost extra to install since it doesn't come with the unit and does take extra labor to install, exact pricing would also be better asked of your local Autotech.

With that module, the key is only required for the programming and you would get it back. There are some vehicles that require the use of a different part that actually has to have the key itself mounted into it.

That's what I was wondering. The key mounted in the module sounds like a security issue that I don't want to deal with.

Usually with they key-in-module option, it isn't too much of a security issue as we normally try to make it as inaccessible as possible by buring it up high in the dashboard. The data module option is more preferred though, since it tends to be a litle more reliable and convenient vs having to fit an extra antenna around the key cylinder and lose the use of a key.

I have a question that you might know the answer to. In my truck when I insert the key into the ignition my drivers seat will move forward, and back when the key is removed. Will the install of the security/remote start affect this feature? In other words, when remotely starting the truck will my seat move forward automatically? Or will this feature be inoperable all together? I like having programmed seats and don't want to lose that feature.
I was also wondering about the keypad on my door. Will I still be able to use the keypad on my door to unlock and lock the doors? I am hoping to keep all factory features on the truck.

I'm not entirely sure on the seat operation. I know you won't lose it completely, but I don't think it will move automatically when remote starting. I know that some of the firmwares available for that module support memory seat functions but I don't know your exact year/model so I can't look up that specific one. The keypad should still function like normal.
