Speaker installation on '08 VW r32

I want to put in some after market componants - stock there are 6.5 comps in the rear, and 6.5 comps in the front with a 4" mid.  I've heard installation is a pain in the doors of the r32 because of depth.  I want to do all Focal - 3-way in the front,

(6.5" Polyglass VR 3-Way Component Car Speakers Focal 6.5" Polyglass VR 3-Way Component Car Speakers, and then the same 2-way comps in the rear.  I just want to know if the speakers can fit, or if you could point me in the right direction of a better option I'm all ears.  I just dont want to have my car hacked up.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Speaker installation on '08 VW r32

Hmmm....I am afraid I might not be of much help on this one.  I don't have any personal experience with the Focals at all and I haven't put speakers in an R32 yet.  I looked in our information and it does list a 1" spacer as being required for the front door speakers so I am sure that there is a problem with depth, but I don't know if the Focals are deeper than a "standard" speaker or not.  I have definitely heard awesome things about the brand though.  I am going to see if I can dig up someone who knows more than I do about either Focals or the R32 (or both) and see if we can get more info.

I appreciate the response... Focals are a great speaker you should give them a listen sometime if your able.
I do know that they make a "shallow" shallow depth set which would probably work. The fact that your information
Says a 1"spacer Means it's possible to me. Any information that you dig up would be helpful.

Thanks!

Re: Speaker installation on '08 VW r32

The Focal 165Vr3's you poster are slightly oversized speakers (6 3/4 as opposed to a standard 6.5" speaker, but the mounting depth on the midbass seems to be fairly standard, so I believe a 1" spacer would be absolutely fine. The problem is you would have to fabricate a custom spacer as they mounting diameter on a 6 3/4 speaker will be too large to use an off the shelf spacer. If you're wanting to put these speakers in a factory location, I don't really see that happening as the midrange is quite a bit larger than a factory speaker, and you would have to modify your door panel or inner door structure. I have had good luck running Hertz energy 3-way components as their midrange is a very slim design that will fit where most factory midranges reside.

Hmm... Ok well crutchfield says that j can install 5.25 comps. The rear and that it fits with a bracket - do you think that would work in the front as well using a spacer if needed for depth?

Re: Speaker installation on '08 VW r32

Thanks for the heads up!  I know that the spacers we have can work with 5 1/4 or 6 1/2 but the 6 1/2 just barely fits sometimes.  I don't know if you can modify it to make it work.  I guess the mid (4"?) would still have issues...I can only assume it is also a depth issue and there isn't room for a spacer.

My reply above was a reply to 1141's post, but I guess it applies to yours as well...if you are still going with 3-way, the mid could still have issues.

Re: Speaker installation on '08 VW r32

Yea there is a 4" and. 6.5" in the door...I would say not even bother with the 4" but it is necessary as the 6.5" is set right next the seat. I'll go for the 5.25 components and maybe get some full range 3.5" and the use the 6.5" comps in the rear... Looks like that's the only way to go... Would have really like to use the 3 ways bu doesn't seem possible... Thanks for all the feedback and I'd you come up with any ideas I'm open to suggestions

Sounds like your factory locations are actually Monsoon factory amplified speakers and may need modification or fabrication within your door panel or even bypassing the factory amplifier. Please call store #101 (Mission Viejo, CA) with further questions between the hours of 10-6 Pacific Time.
