Old Viper Security and Smart Start installed on a new car?

I bought a Viper Security and Remote Start system along with the Smart Start system about 1 year ago from my local Best Buy. They did the isntallation

in my truck and did a great job.

-But-

The engine in that truck died last week. So, I have since purchased a new 2010 Toyta 4Runner Limited. So my quesiton is this:

Can I take the Viper Security and Remote Start system along with the Smart Start system out of my dead truck myself, bring it to Best Buy,

and have them install it again in my new 4Runner? Is there any way I can have my old system transfered to the new car?

That way I only have to pay for installation and any new parts needed as opposed to a whole new system.

Thanks!

Re: Old Viper Security and Smart Start installed on a new car?

It doesn't happen very often but it is possible. Since there is no actual install sku/price to charge you to take it out of the old car, they could either charge by the hour (last I knew it was around 79/hr) or they charge you the cost of what it cost to install initially(if you have the receipt). It's really up to the installer. Uninstalling and re-installing doesn't always work though. A lot can go wrong during the transfer. Best thing to do is contact the install bay and ask if they have an installer willing to do it for you.

Re: Old Viper Security and Smart Start installed on a new car?

i had my 5701 viper system installed at Best Buy in 2008. A year later I had to junk the car but Best Buy took it out for free. I did have the original paperwork so that helped out alot. I think its somewhere in the contract that the will take it out for free. I'll have to pay for them to put the system in another car though. See if you can talk to the agent who installed your system. Bring all the documents you can find. Good luck.

Technically the free removal and uninstall only covers reinstalling factory equipment like speakers and stereos assuming no permanent modifications were made to the vehicle as per the back of installation work orders.
While I am a Installer for Best Buy, my views and any advice I may give are my own and should be taken as such.

Re: Old Viper Security and Smart Start installed on a new car?

Interesting, thanks for the tips everyone. It would be hard to take the car somewhere as the engine went up in it and its currently imobile. The cost of transporting it around to various shops to

get stuff removed is not very apealing. Also, since my new car has push button start and a msart key I have heard the remote start doesn't work to well in it anyway. I might just scrap the system and

buy a factory remote start or something of the sort. Thanks for all the advice.
