I've got a sony xplod 800 watt 2/1 channel amplifier. I'm asking for help in choosing what subwoofers to get with this amplifier to make my car have that ground rattling bass but still sound smooth. I have a 05 nissan altima and really new to this car audio so just looking for help please. Appreciate any help I get up front.

Hmmm....that depends on which amp you actually have. I suspect it is either the XM-ZR1252 or the XMGTX1302, which are both 800W MAX. Both those amps are really close to each other in the RMS ratings at both 4 and 2 ohm so what I will say will apply either way. The RMS power ratings are 125 or 130W (depending on amp model) x 2 at 4ohm and 170W x2 at 2ohm...it should be capable of bridging at 4ohm (340W RMS) but NOT 2ohm If you are looking to get two subs then I would suggest the Kicker Comps (4ohm) which are rated for 150W RMS each. The Alpine Type Es would also work but would definitely be underpowered with either of those amps. Personally, I would ditch the somewhat anemic Sony 2-channel amp in favor of a larger mono amp if I were looking for any sort of ground rattling bass though. Those amps are good for small systems but if you want something with impact, there are definitely beefier amps to choose from.

Thanks for the response. Yes it is the model that you thought it was. I'm only looking for a small system just need more bass than my stock radio. I was looking at this subwoofer and was wondering if you thought it would be ok matched with my amp. http://www.crispdeals.com/ROCKFORD_FOSGATE_R1L1X12

That sub will definitely work. It is rated up to 150W RMS so if you run it to just one channel of the amp it will be slightly underpowered and if you bridge the amp it will be overpowered. I would probably bridge the amp and turn the level waaay down but it is up to whoever is hooking it up and tuning it. You just want to be careful not to over or underpower it by too much. On a side note, if you are purchasing from that website and are at all concerned about Rockford's warranty you might want to verify that they are recognized as an authorized dealer since Rockford won't honor it if it wasn't purchased from an authorized dealer.

Yeah I thought about that as well from that website. A little too good to be true type of thing. I think I'm going to settle on this package here http://www.crutchfield.com/p_700R150112/Rockford-F

Yep...that would be a perfectly matched package. If you still wanted to use that other amp and want to go with that original enclosure, I believe they have that available separately as well. They probably cost a little more than the other place but Crutchfield is definitely an authorized retailer so there shouldn't be any warranty problems.
