Auxiliary audio input setup for a Kia

Hello,

I have a 2002 Kia Optima and the manufacturer's stereo system lacks an auxiliary audio input. I'd like to install a wired auxiliary input without having to buy an aftermarket stereo. Any information on where I can buy this product (if it exists) would be greatly appreciated.

*Note: I am not looking for an FM wireless or wired solution. I was able to buy a device for my 98 Ford explorer that gave me a wired auxiliary input, and I'd like to do the same for this car.

Thanks,

Stephen

Re: Auxiliary audio input setup for a Kia

Best Buy sells the iSimple IS77. This a FM modulated option, but it is hard-wired and installed into your car. So it looks like it came with the car. You will still tune your radio to 87.9 or something like that. The advantage to an inline FM modulator is that it will cancel out the outside radio stations while it is turned on. So you won't get the static that you get from the cigarette lighter FM modulators that you use it with. I have installed several of these units and have even used them in my personal vehicles. Makes it sound like a VERY strong FM radio station.

Re: Auxiliary audio input setup for a Kia

I agree with mrm1776 on this one. I don't know of any direct plug in solution for a 2002 Kia factory stereo. As far as I have seen, they lack the additional expansion ports on the rear of the stereo that would allow that type of device to be plugged in. I believe that in later years they started adding the option, but on a 2002 you might be stuck with either changing the radio or adding the IS77 FM mod solution. On the upside, even the more inexpensive radios BBY sells add the AUX option and are an improvement over the factory radio.
