I have an 2001 Expedition and want to upgrade the subwoofer and the rest of the audio system. I currently have an 8" factory subwoofer that is enclosed in the back left panel. THe subwoofer sits inside of a plastic fitting custom made for this truck and that size speaker. Can I upgrade and get at least a 10" subwoofer and keep it in the panel inside that plastic fitting? I am not interested in getting a box that exposes the subwoofer......I want to keep it hidden! Any solutions?

AFAIK that housing will only allow for an 8" and it might actually restrict it to the factory style. There are at least two solutions that I know of. Both of them come with a 10" sub and replace the current 8" sub in that panel. I haven't personally installed either of them so I don't know if there are any extra things you need to do to get them to fit. MTX and JL both make a solution which is preloaded with a 10" that fits in the space. The MTX part is called a Thunderform and the JL is the Stealthbox. We, unfortunately, don't carry either of these solutions but we definitely should be able to install them. Another consideration is the amplifier to run them. It is likely that the factory amp will be too little power to be able to run anything else efficiently and space/location/expense would be something else you might want to factor into your decision and you might want to consult with your local Autotech to explore the different options. There might be other companies that simply make an empty box that fits in the space and you choose your own sub to install as well, but I don't know of any off the top of my head.
