Having grown up in a rural area and spending nearly two years in Central America, I know what it’s like to be disconnected from technology– for this reason, I sincerely appreciate all the advantages that my access to technology brings.I was probably in the last group of kids who learned how to type on a typewriter, but was still fortunate enough to complete my entire undergraduate degree fully connected to computers and the Internet (no more searching for library resources on hand-written index cards!).
My fiancé has his own small business which dabbles in nearly everything technological – not surprisingly, our house and garage are filled with over 6 PCs, 2 Macs, several servers, notebooks, netbooks, and computer parts and books galore! At home, we spend most of our time on our computers. When not working or studying for grad school (me for Business Communication & him for Software Design/Development), we try to take some time out to play video games – the one game he actually got me hooked on was City of Heroes on the PC – who wouldn’t love to be a super-hero?I also love Wii Sports (who needs fancy games when you've got bowling & tennis?), Rock Band and Lego Batman. We often use our 12-megapixel digital camera with HD video capabilities, which has helped us capture several family reunions, birthdays, and funny moments with our cat (Curi) and dog (Hirro). We love playing host and hostess by grilling out or cooking dinner for family and friends.I truly enjoy spending time with and buying gifts for my nieces and nephews and am amazed at how technology has integrated into toys and education. My biggest "geek" hobby is wrapping gifts for Christmas or any occasion, and YouTube has admittedly helped me learn how to make a new ribbon bow.
I started with Best Buy in 2004, in what I thought was going to be a temporary job until I could find work in the non-profit profession. I've stayed, not only because of the development opportunities I have been afforded, but because I truly believe in our company mission and values. In 2008, I was drawn to social media because of all the possibilities it brings for us to communicate with our customers and each other on a personal and transparent level. We're far from perfection, but we do our very best with what we've been given. The first words in our company social media policy are to "be human." Here we are!
