Manufacturer Warranties and Protection Plans

i have YLOD on 80gig which was bought for 600 bucks and still got service plan warranty for it, and am going to return it tommorow. but just out of curiousity, what will they do with it after i give'em my ps3?
give me a new one? a new 160 gig? a gift card for 600 bucks?

They will most likely replace your model with the current updated model, it would not make econimic sense for them to give you $600 when they could replace it for $400

You should receive a replacement in the form of a 160GB PS3.

I believe PS3s have PRP plans on them, which provides for replacement instead of service. In the event that your current model is no longer avaliable, you can either have it replaced with a comparable product not exceeding the original purchase price, or elect to have the original purchase price put onto a store credit for you to use as you see fit.

They would only give him a new PS3 there is no reason they would give him a gift card for $600.  Why would they?

No they are not, if they can replace the unit they will not also give the option of a $600 giftcard, the only time they would do that is if they had no PS3s to replace it with.

There might be the option but they will not use said option, just like if a customer were to return something after 31 days, there is the option to refund them but in all honesty they will go with the smarter option and tell them to kick rocks.

The answer to your question really depends upon which type of service plan coverage you purchased for your PS3. If you purchased a Product Replacement Plan (PRP), the associate that helps you would need to contact our PRP hotline to obtain a return authorization. Once they’ve done so, you should be issued a gift card for the full purchase price of the original console. If your PS3 is covered under a Geek Squad® Black Tie Protection (GSBTP) Gadgets & Gizmos plan, however, you would be provided the closest comparable model (up to the purchase price of the original product) as an exchange.

I would love to know if they actually would do this, seeing as how they have PS3s in stock, with bigger harddrives and a better controller (rumble function).  I just don't see them going that route when the obvious solution is to give out a new PS3 instead.
