we recently purchased a wii with the $39.99 two year warranty or protection plan or whatever it's called and I'm wondering if we need to activate that somehow or what we do if our wii goes bad. Any knowledge would be benficial, I can't seem to find anything on the website.

If anything happens just bring the product back to any Best Buy retail location where they will evaluate it and then either repair or replace (or rapid exchange it). When I was in-store, Wiis happened to be replaced right there but the plan does allow the option to service (or rapid exchange) the unit, so do not be suprised if that happens. The plan you purchased is a Black Tie Protection plan so you know we will be there to support you for the life of your product. The end result will be a world-class experience that is sure to never leave you hanging.

The Wii would be sent out for repair. RE is not an option for that console.

You don't need to do anything to activate the plan. It was activated at the register when you purchased it. Make sure that you keep the paperwork that they gave you, it has the plan number and should explain what is covered and how to go about getting it repaired under the plan. The WII is a carry in item so if anything does go wrong with the unit just take it back to the store with you warranty info and the store will take it from there.
