sprint phone protection plan a scam

like so many others, i was lied to when i purchased my htc evo from bestbuy mobile here in colorado.when i signed up for best buy's black tie protection, i was told i would be able to exchange my phone on the spot if i ever damaged or had a problem with my phone. i bought my evo in august of 2011 and now Jan 12' i cracked the screen on my phone. when i called best buy today to find out if they had htc evo's in stock for protection plan coverage, i was explained that i was misinformed about the coverge plan and that i would need to bring my phone in for repair and it would need to be sent off and was not done on location.

i found out that repairs can take up to 4 weeks

they offer you a borrowed phone with a $150 deposit

the phone they loan out is not the same phone i purchased

all in all, this is my first stop in many to let people know of the deceitful sales tactic, BEST BUY MOBILE has resorted to.

i will never be back to a best buy for buisness, EVER!

Re: sprint phone protection plan a scam

Unless you specifically opt for repair, your phone will be Rapid Exchanged. This only usually takes 2-4 days. If you don't have a phone to use, the store can provide you with a loaner. They require a $50 deposit which is fully refunded upon the return of the loaner phone.

Re: sprint phone protection plan a scam

there is no reason why best buy cant stock replacement phones on the spot. they choose not.

if someone would have told me about the "rapid exchage" you are desribing (2-4days without a phone), i would went with sprint insurance. they replace the phone much quicker.

sprint would have also let me keep my current phone, until the replacement comes.

I had the same problems with "Misinformation" from salesperson-Here is a way to get back on Sprint Insurance (which for me is far better & faster, I don't care about deductable) Once you get your next phone to activate call Sprint and ask for insurance to be put on, then cancell charges to your card from Black Lie Protection. I've have more coverage with Sprint that Best Buy and it is cheaper, BTP also does not cover lost/'stolen or damage that they deem beyond normal wear & tear.

Dank, that is pure BS! Some of us have had enough of Best Buy's treatment of its customers. I got started on this after reading downlo's post. Same problem with a phone. Read the post about Black Tie lies. I fully agree with downlo and NICU's posts. They speak the truth!

Re: sprint phone protection plan a scam

NICU,

It is beyond frustrating to hear that you were given completely incorrect features of the plan when purchasing your phone. Unfortunately, our plan has never provided instant in-store replacements. While this feature would be amazing, it is simply not practical. The industry standard is for refurbished replacements to be sent out when an issue occurs. With 1000+ stores, I'm afraid we just wouldn't be able to keep stock of that many phones in each store. Therefore, we use a centralized service center for fulfillment.

That being said, any cases of plan misrepresentation are unacceptable. We take all feedback regarding this topic seriously and always make sure it is heard by the store's leadership as to make sure they stop any possible trends of this happening. We provide no incentive to our associates for this behavior and it is strictly against our policy and values.

I wanted to look into your service history to see if there is something I can help out with. However, I wasn't able to locate any records based on the information you registered with. In order for me to help you, I'll need the correct information sent to me in a private message.

Regards,
