I purchased an xbox 360 in march of 07 along with a 2 year PRP plan. In sept 08 my console showed the "red ring of death". I brought it in to my local store and it was replaced within minutes. during that time i asked "what if this happens again?" and was told by a Geek Squad employee that if it happens before March 09, when my PRP expires, i would just have to do the same thing; bring it in and have it exchanged. after march 09, and the year PRP expired, i was told i'd need to deal with microsoft directly.
its now Dec 08, just a few months since my replacement, and my new console is giving me a "red ring of death". i just called my local store to confirm i can bring it in and exchange as per the PRP and was told "no, your PRP expired when you exchanged the first unit, you have to call microsoft"
I've found info on this forum that says a PRP can be used repeatedly if the failures happen within a manufactures warranty period (which is usually one year), but if another failure happens in year two on a two year plan you are only given one replacement by best buy.
now, its my understanding Microsoft has extended thier warranty period for all "red ring of death" claims to 3 years.
with that being said, shouldn't my 2 year PRP plan still cover a second replacement because my second failure is falling within the manufactures 3 year warranty period?
thanks in advance for any advice
