iPad 1 Broke; have accidental plan; will travel in 3 days!

Howdy BestBuy,

 

I purchased my iPad 1 with the premium accidental protection program (2 years) this past March 2011.  My iPad just recently broke (as I was taking my bag out of my car) and isn't working.  I travel in 3 days.  I'm a social media consultant and rely on my iPad for research and keeping up with my social media work!

 

What will happen?  Will I get an iPad 2 as a replacement?  Will it happen before I travel in 3 days?  I really need my iPad on my trip when I'm away.

 

Aah, help!

 

Would love any clarification.

Don't count on it. I can bet you that the most bestbuy would do for you is tell you that they can try to fix it and if they can't repair it send you a gift card of the value maybe half of what you spent to get the ipad.

That really depends on what the internal system tells the employee what to do. As far as I know, there are 3 possible scenarios. One, the system prompts the iPad to be repaired which means that it needs to be sent out for service, in which the turn time is 2-3 weeks. Two, the system prompts for the iPad to be Rapid Exchanged which means you will receive a refurbished equal or better iPad within 3-5 business days. Three, the system prompts for the iPad to be instantly exchanged in-store because there are no other fulfillment options available, which means you would get an iPad 2 of comparable specs or better without exceeding your original purchase price. Scenario 3 would fulfill your service plan which means that you would have to purchase a new service plan on your new iPad if you wanted to same coverage.

I'm sorry to hear your iPad broke and with such terrible timing! Typically we will either repair your iPad or replace it with a refurbished model under our Rapid Exchange program.  While repairs can take up to 30 days from start to finish, we do our best to Rapid Exchange as many as possible to keep the turn around time short.  Rapid Exchange typically takes 3-5 days.
