broke laptop, old replacemt warranty

So I bought my laptop 2 years ago.  I purchased with it a 3 year warranty, that I believe was the replacement warranty, that covers any accidents that break my laptop.  Well last week it was accidentally pushed off my balcony.  The screen is broken, and it also seems the hard drive is broken, along with mostly everything.  First off, best buy's website makes it hard to find what the old warranties are.  I lost my warranty receipts and receipt for buying the laptop.  Anyone know what the warranty I'm talking about is called?  Also, does anyone with experience in a situation like this with Best Buy know, I should receive a new laptop if they cannot repair mine correct?  And I should be able to get it without my receipt right?

I'm assuming I can get it repaired or replaced without my receipt because I'm assuming they can look it up with the serial number of the laptop or my drivers license or something?

They should be able to look up your PSP with your name, phone number, serial number of your laptop. Take it to the Geek Squad desk at your local store.

Re: broke laptop, old replacemt warranty

they will be able to look up your receipt with your telephone number. it is not the "replacement Plan" you got because best buy do not offer that for laptops.

they offer service plans. what service plan is that they will attempt to service your computers before replacing you with a computer. the only reason where they will give you a free computer is if your computer requires up to the 4th qualified repair.

i work in a best buy in the computer department, and i see it a lot where we just give out free computers because of their protection service plan.

so the one you got is called the Protection Service Plan. depends on how serverely it is broken. it is only covered if it was accidental damage. if they some how see it it's intentional breakage then it won't covered (like if u dropped the computer from 3 stories, run it over with a car, submerged the laptop in water, etc etc)

couple months ago i had this lady brought the paper work to me to get a free laptop, she was only 2 days away before her protection service plan expired. we give her a free laptop and she was able to walk away with a working computer, and yes she did pay another $300 to get the protection service plan again with it. (that you will have to pay again)

Re: broke laptop, old replacemt warranty

Hello neoga34,

Oh, man!  That’s a pretty upsetting situation.  I can’t begin to tell you how I would feel if that happened to me.  My balcony is seven floors up!

The good news is that if your Performance Service Plan (PSP) includes Accidental Damage from Handling (ADH) coverage, then it’s possible that the damage may be covered.  Of course, the technicians at the service center always make the final determination as to whether the repair is covered, so please bear that in mind.

Please watch for a private message from me with additional information for you.  You may check your forum inbox by signing in with your user name and password and then clicking the envelope icon in the upper right.

Thanks for writing to us here on the forum!

Sincerely,
