Hello,
I purchased an xbox360 from Best Buy in October of 2007 with a 2 year PRP. I am now experiencing freeze ups and red ring issues. I have been advised by geek squad to take it into the store. When I got to the store I found that the serial number on my receipt does not match the serial number on my console. Is it possible that the person that rang me up scanned the wrong barcode on the box? I haven't ever taken my console out of my home so I know it didn't get switched with a friends. I have read about a few other customers that have experienced similar issues. I contacted XBOX support and they told me that neither serial number had been registered... I need help here, I paid $350 for a console that is now dead and I would like to continue shopping at Best Buy. This may be the last straw...
please advise!

I hope you still have the orginal xbox box. The same thing happened to me.
I went to a diffrent best buy store and I was told the serial # did not match my xbox.
So I stoped by the best buy that I got the 360 at and it turns out the saleperson was scanning
the wrong bar code on the box for the serial #.
the serial# on the receipt turns out matched some bar code on the outside of the box.
Good luck.

"That's not possible. The system will not allow any other number to be scanned. "
Well guess what it was possible, cause it happened to me.
The best buy I bought the 360 system from admitted they had a system problem,
so they scanned any bar code on the box to get the sale done.
However the serial# on the receipt did not look anything like the serial# on the 360
it was too many digit short.
Never noticed that until my 360 crapped out. <--1yr later.

Unfortunately, I did not keep the original box. The serial number on my receipt is also a 12 digit number. I am willing to bet the same thing happened to me but it looks like i'm up the river without a paddle...
thanks.

Hey brotherhooddrum -
As a gamer, I know how upsetting it can be when my systems break down on me! I NEED TO GAME! ![]()
As was mentioned previously, when a purchase is made, the cashier is supposed to scan a bar code on your unit, which should be your serial number. In very rare cases, the serial number on the unit will not match the box, however there is an internal serial number that should be registered with Microsoft.
I would be happy to try to look into this, so I am sending you a private message. You can view your private messages by first ensuring you are logged into the forums, the clicking the envelope in the upper right hand corner of the page.
