Worst warrenty and customer service ever or legit response?

This sorta happened awhile ago, but shortly after buying my Xbox 360 along with Forza 2 with the 2 year warrenty plan, my copy of Forza 2 was scratched by the Xbox somehow. There was this visably scratched ring on the read surface and didn't work anymore. This was only about 2 and a half months after getting the Xbox and game, and I am pretty careful with my games. Besides, there's no way I could scratch a perfect concentric circle so it's obviously the Xbox, somehow. So I take it to the local Best Buy to get a replacement, but the customer rep tells me that it's Microsoft who should replace my game, not Best Buy, despite my getting a Best Buy warrenty and all standard 90-day warrenties tell you to take it back to the RETAILER, not the manufacturer. So I told this moron what it says on the disclaimer and she just disregarded it completely saying that Best Buy policy overrides that. Bullsh*t! Do you guys think this is a legitimate claim on Best Buy's part, or was I just gyped by lousy service?

Re: Worst warrenty and customer service ever or legit response?

I to was not told the truth about a warranty I purchased from BestBuy when I purchased my 42" tv 2 months ago. I was told if something happened to my tv I would be given a new one if I purchased a BestBuy warranty. When I mention it now no one seems to know what I'm talking about. I guess the both of us have hearing problems, or just had money to give away when our country is either in recession or one foot away from it.

Hey sirender,

I'm sorry to hear that your game disc got damaged! I certainly understand how frustrating it can be when this sort of problem occurs, but thankfully there are a few things that Xbox owners can do in these situations.

As you mentioned, most publishers will offer a 90-day warranty on their video game software. How this warranty is honored does vary from company to company, but generally requires consumers to contact the publisher directly. Since Forza 2 was released by Microsoft Game Studio, you should be able to request a replacement disc by contacting their toll-free support hotline at 1-(800)-360-7561.

Alternatively, you can instead seek a replacement through Microsoft's Xbox Disc Replacement Program.  Details on this program can be found
here, but please note that the covered titles may change from time to time.

In the event that you purchased a Best Buy® Product Replacement Plan (PRP) for the game, you can even file a damage claim with us by calling 1-(888)-539-6883.  Please keep in mind though that without PRP coverage Best Buy® is unable to offer replacements for physically damaged software, regardless of any existing manufacturer’s warranty.

Hope this helps you out.
