Re: Where do I send a formal letter of complaint?

I would highly recommend against writing "SEE ID" on the back of cards. It is VERY easy to fake an ID with your name and the thief's picture and signature on it.

I post on these forums to help. I know that my advice may not be in line with what you believe is fair and just. YES, I do believe that there are employees and managers that are uninformed, difficult to work with...you name it. However, MOST are not like that.

My advice is based on my experiences and common sense.

Especially an ID that can fake a cashier at any retail store...(forgot to add that in)

Re: Where do I send a formal letter of complaint?

Great news, I am covered under black tie! For some reason, they had shown us as not covered but another rep verified that we are and we're able to get our TV replaced. Thank God!

Re: Where do I send a formal letter of complaint?

Yes, thank you. It wasn't only the first rep, it was multiple. For some reason when I called the best buy line and not the geek squad, they were able to pull it up. Anyway, he gave me my protection plan number and said I'm covered through 3/15. So happy to get this resolved. Hopefully there aren't any similar problems in the future.

Re: Where do I send a formal letter of complaint?

I could be completely wrong, but I'm relatively certain that in specifically SC (used to live there), they had made it "illegal" to ask a customer for their ID when presenting a credit card, as it was (as stated before), forcing a client to release that confidential info.

Glad to hear you got the Black Tie situation squared away, I was utterly confused on how you were able to get Geek Squad agents to your home for service, and not had to pay them for each visit. (They do not do free housecalls to repair a TV under mfg warranty)

Re: Where do I send a formal letter of complaint?

Yes, I had to make several calls but I got it resolved. I pulled all my invoices for the services and they were covered and billed under the mfg warranty. However, they said that since that warranty expired, they rolled over onto the black tie.

Why they told me I wasn't covered, I have no idea. Now it's just a matter of getting it replaced. Supposedly, after three service requests, the product is supposed to be replaced and we've had five work orders.

Anyhow, they said one more work order and they'll replace it. I love Samsung products, but am really disappointed in that fact that we've had to go through all this. But that's why we got black tie! It is a shame as to how much trouble I had to go through to get this resolved.

Just so others know, don't give up on getting a resolution. I called the store manager, who didn't speak to me, regarding the matter and they said there was nothing they could do. I pleaded with the associate explaining to her my frustration, and still nothing. One hour later, the store manager called my husband and agreed to have the store pay for the repair and diagnostic fees to get the TV fixed. Thank goodness we won't have to do that, but it's nice to know we would've been taken care of. This just goes to show you that you shouldn't always take "no" for an answer and that persuasion is better than force.

It's not illegal. It just violates the agreement between Visa and Mastercard and businesses. Visa and Mastercard have pretty much told the merchants they do business with to accept any and all Visa/Mastercard branded cards without checking ID as long as the back of the card is signed. If it is not signed, then you need to check ID. Why? Because there were a lot of a cases where those businesses had rogue employees who would memorize the ID info along with the credit card info, and commit fraud. So, Visa and MC told the businesses, "Just follow our rules, you'll get your money, and we'll handle the fraud/credit card theft cases." So far, it's been working well for them. Fraud cases have dropped, so now scammers are resorting to skimming and phishing.

Re: Where do I send a formal letter of complaint?

Hi agreen,

Sorry for all the incorrect information you received on this, and having been the victim of theft myself I can completely relate to your disappointment. I was glad to hear that this was finally resolved for you, and that you did get a service plan for this TV. If you ever need anything specific from me just ask.

Thanks for posting,
