Well I can see I'm not ALONE! Safety in numbers???

I'm having a similar issue (like most everyone else) with my laptop that I purchased in Feb or march. I bought the EXTRA warranty and all the kit n caboodle! Well, I take it in to have it repaired b/c well it's covered right?!?!?! Oh mind you I bought the mid grade warranty if you will . Well, 140 later and an understanding that they would retrieve my files, I go back and what do they want for the service they had allegedly had 3 DAYS to do, you guessed it ANOTHER 100!!! I asked them if we would get a refund of the moneys already spent on an unfixed computer and they said No sorry we tried! So what the heck did I pay for!!!!!! I will NEVER purchase another item from there and you bet your bottom dollar that I will tell all of our friends and family and well my husband will be telling all of his Army buddies too!!!!! Thanks for a whole lot of nothing!

Re: Well I can see I'm not ALONE! Safety in numbers???

Sorry for my delay, went to jump off a customers car. So let me get this straight. You purchased the notebook early this year with the standard Geek Squad service plan. The computer would not boot up so you took it in. They diagnosed the problem as a software issue. You were charged for the the operating system service ($129.99) but not for a data backup service. Did you tell them when you dropped it off that you needed your data backed up? The $99 charge for data backup and is a standard charge for that service.

Just so you are aware, no warranty or service plan covers software problems. The unit will be fully diagnosed to find any hardware problems that may exist. These problems will be fixed under your service plan at no charge to you. The only charges that you will incurre will be for the operating system service and data backup if you choose to have the files backed up prior to the operating system being reinstalled.

Am I correct thus far?

Re: Well I can see I'm not ALONE! Safety in numbers???

Hey PBGrl88,

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been encountering difficulties with your laptop!  Repairs are rarely a welcome prospect, so I can imagine how frustrated you must feel to be without your computer.  I would be equally disappointed in a similar situation.

Like Adamtech mentioned, however, please remember that neither most factory warranties nor your service plan provide coverage for software-related issues.  It is ultimately the consumer’s responsibility to backup their data, and both data backup and operating system services are only available through our retail stores for separate additional fees.  For additional information I would strongly encourage you to check out the following links:

It’s regrettable if this does not meet your expectations, but rest assured that management will have the opportunity to review this situation.  In the meantime, please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions.  You can send me a private message by clicking on either my signature below or the letter icon in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
