Warranty Worries

i bought a JVC everio with a 4year plan it says on the receipt ADH DCC PSP and i also bought a easy share camera with a 4year plan on the receipt it says PSP DSC this was back in 2007 so i paid almost $1,000 for both. while the adults were outside drinking and grilling food the kids inside went into my room and destroyed both of those items and a couple more things.  kids were 3 - 8 years olds like 12 of them.  i've heard a lot of horror stories about best buy warranties and thought if it was even worth it to go in and does anyone know what i'm even covered for for each item? can i get replacements for both and can they get my data from my camcorder for free it a bit damages though. thanks.

Re: Warranty Worries

The information you are looking for can be found in the Terms and Conditions posted here.  Terms and Conditions: https://www.productassist.com/tandc/TandC.html

Since there are so many things that the Black Tie covers it is always best to look at the actual Terms and Conditions because people make mistakes and I wouldn't want someone to give you information and then walk into the Geek Squad and find out that that information wasn't entirely accurate.

-Camcorder data - nor sure if the data can be recovered, but the PSP doesn't cover Data Recovery to the best of my knowledge.

Re: Warranty Worries

Greetings this_one_guy_4u,

I’m sorry to hear about your camera and camcorder!  I recently attended a party myself where a lot of little kids were present, so I fully understand how things could’ve gotten out of hand.

Like Mbrguy mentioned, the best way to determine what each of your service plans cover is to refer to the brochure you were provided at the time of sale.  In general though, you can expect coverage for damages due to the following:

  • Hardware failures
  • Factory defects
  • Built-up dust
  • Power surges/fluctuation
  • Internal overheating and humidity

Plans with Accidental Damage from Handling (ADH) will also cover damages due to events such as liquid spills and falls from furniture – minor accidents that might occur over the course of normal, everyday use as the manufacturer intended.  It’s important to keep in mind, however, that none of our service plans provide coverage for data backup/recovery services or unintended misuse.

As far as repairs are concerned, both your camera and camcorder would need to be sent out for service before anything else could happen.  Once they’ve been seen by a factory-authorized technician – and the service center’s had the chance to examine the extent of the damages – we should then be able to provide you a number of service options.

If you have not already done so, I’d encourage you to bring both devices to the repair counter at your local Best Buy® store.  Once there, simply send me a private message with the service order numbers provided by the store and I’d be glad to see what can be done to assist you.  You can send me a private message by signing into the forums and then clicking on either my signature below or the letter icon in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
