Warranty For Shuffle

K I bought the PRP I'm pretty sure for my ipod shuffle (it was 8 dollars for the warranty so i think it was PRP), but my question is can I take my current shuffle back for a completely different mp3 player, well like get the best buy credit, and use it towards a new one. I was able to to this when I got the same plan for my Zune and returned it for an ipod classic 3 months later. All that happend was it voided the current warranty so I was out the 40 I spent on the warranty, but I was able to get the classic (well 200 of credit and i spent 50 more to get the 250 dollar classic). If this helps at all, when I took my shuffle back when it broke a few months ago, the guy said "You still want the same item right?" So i assume I have the option to get something else, but maybe not.

Thanks!

Re: Warranty For Shuffle

You do have the option to get a store credit when your PRP (now called the Geek Squad Black Tie Protection plan) is fulfilled. However, there has to be something wrong with the product. If it is tested and is in working order, you cannot have it replaced under the terms of the PRP.

Re: Warranty For Shuffle

oh well dang, they must have changed it. Back when I brought my Zune back, it was in working order, in fact since it was the 4 th time i brought it back, i didn't bother taking it out of the box when i took it back. They just took it and replaced it with an ipod.

Re: Warranty For Shuffle

If you had taken it back multiple times and not received a replacement, then it was being serviced under the Performance Service Plan (PSP), not the PRP. It was replaced under the no lemon policy, which provides a replacement after three qualifying repairs and a diagnosis indicating a need for a fourth qualifying repair.

For a replacement to be issued under a PRP, the unit must be defective. It doesn't serve as an extended exchange policy. I can assure you it has always been this way.

Re: Warranty For Shuffle

Welcome Michael!

You ask good questions!  I make sure that I have protection plans for my products too!

As MobileExpert indicated, your PRP (Product Replacement Plan) is designed to replace your iPod Shuffle in the event it fails due to manufacturer defect or normal wear and tear, dust, internal heat, etc.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t allow for an upgrade upon request to another product.  It sounds like the store associates may have made an exception since you had so many problems right in a row with the Zune, but I couldn’t say for sure.

If the Shuffle should fail though (and we hope it doesn’t), you may visit the store with your iPod and original purchase receipt and they’ll assist you with the exchange.  Usually, you’d receive another iPod Shuffle, since the Shuffle line of products is still available, but our store associates will do their best to make sure you receive the most suitable product for your needs, and that can include an upgrade to a different iPod.

I hope this helps!
