Manufacturer Warranties and Protection Plans

I'm thinking of spending $1000 on a laptop from best buy but I have a few questions. Currently I live in Japan with an APO AP address. I was wondering if I bought a laptop and it arrived defective or damaged, would bestbuy replace it no questions asked and how long would I have to return it? And is the Black Tie protection plan worth purchasing or is it money down the drain?

Best Buy is pleased to support our troops, and to make a broader range of products than ever available to them wherever they may be stationed.

We are now able to ship a vast majority of products from BestBuy.com to APO or FPO addresses, with these exceptions:

• Special order products
• Oversized products, including major appliances, TVs 25" and larger (including some flat-panel TVs) entertainment furniture, and other items that exceed certain size and weight restrictions
• GPS Hardware
• GPS Software
• Cell Phone Hardware
• FRS Radios
• Cordless Phones
• FM Transmitters

If a product is not supported for shipment to an APO/FPO address, you will be alerted in Cart after you enter your shipping address information.

APO and FPO Shipping Address Instructions (see example below)

• In the "Address" field for Army, Navy and Marines enter Unit Number and Box Number; for Ships enter Ship Name and Hull Number; for Air Force enter PSC Number and Box Number.
  
  
• In the "Address Line 2" you can enter optional military command or organization name (ex. USAG J or 2/566 Postal Co.).
  
  
• In the "City" field enter APO or FPO.
  Please note: Our fulfillment partners cannot ship to city codes other than APO or FPO for military shipments. Entering a city other than APO or FPO will result in delays in your order being processed, or potentially cancelled. Only enter the city and not a combination of city and state in this field. This will also result in delays/cancellation of your order. (Incorrect: APO AE, AE)
  
  
• On the "State" line, select one of the following:
  AE - Armed Forces Europe, Middle East, Africa and Canada
  AA - Armed Forces Americas
  AP - Armed Forces Pacific
  
  
• On the "ZIP Code" line, enter the 5-digit ZIP code for the military unit. Your military ZIP code must start with a 0 or 9. Any other zip codes in combination with AE, AA or AP will result in processing delays/cancellation of your order. Your billing address ZIP code (or home address code) cannot be used in place of your military ZIP code.
  
  
• On the "Country" line, use the default choice of USA.
  
  
• We cannot accept international numbers in the "Phone" area. We suggest you enter the phone number of a family member or friend who is stateside.

Our customers enjoy a 14-day return period for notebook computers.  If your shipment arrives defective or damaged, or if you decide it’s not the right item for you, you have 14 days from the date of delivery to return the product to Best Buy®.  If the product is not defective, you may be subject to a 15% restocking fee.  Please remember, that the product must be received by us within the 14 days, so you may need to make different shipping arrangements than through APO.

Geek Squad® Black Tie Protection (GSBTP) is a worthwhile investment for our customers.  Apart from offering the same (or better) coverage than the manufacturer’s warranty, the plans also cover heat, humidity, power surge, normal wear and tear, etc.  There’s also a provision for international repair coverage for our customers traveling or living abroad.  An overview of GSBTP can be found here.
