My daughter who just bought a HP Tablet PC from Best Buy in Maryland at her training base. Well on her flight home to pick up her vehicle and all her stuff and then drive to Yuma, AZ for her first duty station, SouthWest Airlines decided to smash up her new PC. She has had two HP PCs from Best Buy before and both had the extended warranty including pysical damage which she has used in the past and gotten cracked case type things repaired before. She was told at the Yuma store that her unit only had electronic repair coverage and not damage and that repairs would be around $500 for her 1 month old unit. She understood the salesman in Maryland had included the coverage she had before on her other two units. A $500 hit on her now will be tough as she is trying to establish her new residence. Any advice that can help her out, cheaper place to get parts? cheaper place for repair? any advice at all would be welcomed.

Hey David_Hineline,
I am sorry to hear about your daughter's troubles with her laptop. I know how frustrating that can be! In fact, when my sister was shipping overseas on her first tour with the Navy a few years ago, her car fell off the freighter that was transporting all of her belongings to Sicily! I completely understand what a hassle it can be when a transportation company damages or loses your property!
That being said, if your daughter has any further questions about the plan she purchased, please feel free to have her contact us directly at online.communities@bestbuy.com (reference case number 52801979), and we would be happy to look into this further. Also, I'm not sure if she used a credit card to make this purchase - some accounts may include coverage for things like this so it may be another option to look into.
One final thing, Best Buy® is very concerned about our customers' safety using online communities, and we do not recommend anyone posting personal information, including full names, in a post. Please keep this in mind as you use our forum or any other online community.
Thank you,
Dorothy
