Return policy help.

I bought a open box ipad 3, 16gb 4g last week for $610 after tax (great deal honestly). Problem is it get super hot and the screen has alot of yellowing which I normally would look past but this is pretty bad. I have decided just to return it because I really have no need for it and my question is... How will the refund be paid to me since I paid for it with $200 cash, $367 debit and $43 from a gift card.?

Will it come back as a gift card for 43, cash for 200 and a debit return for 367 or will they try to do it all minus the 43 with a check? The reason I ask is because i REFUSE to return anything to best buy anymore if they are going to send me a check. I did this a few years ago and it took almost a month and a half to get it. That was a month and a half that they had the returned product and my money making interest on it before they sent it out AND IT BOUNCED WHICH CAUSED MY BANK TO CHARGE $25 fee that best buy would not refund. How does something like that bounce????

Anyways any info would be great. Thank you.

Re: Return policy help.

Cash and debit are essentially the same thing, so unless you opt to get a store credit/gift card, I think you'll be getting a check + gift card for $43. I'm not 100% sure on that as I don't do too many returns/exchanges, but I have a hard time believing that your previous return check bounced...

Re: Return policy help.

You should do a google search for best buy bounced checks than if you have a hard time believing me. I have not been the only one.

I also dont understand how it is even legal to have you wait 10-14 days to get a check in the mail while they have the product in hand. They are making interest on your money while they still hold it for those however many days. That my friends is the real reason why they wait and send checks.

Re: Return policy help.

They also had to pay the people at the CS desk to take your return. Most likely the cost to take your return is much more than the interest they are receiving.

Awesome conspiracy theory... I'm sure the interest that they make over 10-14 days is so worth it.

Re: Return policy help.

X's that by how many people return an item over $500 over the course of the year held 10 to 14 business days longer than it should... Yeah it's a lot of money. It's not a conspiracy theory it's pretty simple high school business class stuff. Cell phone providers also do mail-in rebates because A. They make interest off the money as it sits and B. there is more of a chance of the check never being cashed. Call it conspiracy all you want but a dollar here and a dollar there from a lot of people over the course of the year adds up and we all know Best Buy can use all they can get right now.

Re: Return policy help.

Almost always, when you run debit over 250, it actually runs in the system like credit. Most likely, the debit part will credit back to your card, you will get the cash you paid back in cash, and a gift card back with the gift card amount. No point getting mad before you even try it.

I would love to sign up for this bi-monthly interest payout.

Re: Return policy help.

Hello hawkijustin,

Welcome to the forum!

I'm sorry to hear about your defective iPad; it's kind of weird for a brand new item like this to be so defective. I had a chance to look into this for you, but I am afraid there are certain details that prevent me from answering you with 100% certainty. I do not want you to reveal details about your card, so I will answer you as accurately as possible.

Based on what you wrote, you should expect to receive a mailcheck for the cash and debit portion of the refund. This is not a guarantee as the card used could have a credit card logo which may prompt the system to process a credit. I am afraid I can't tell you which way this will go on the forum, so I would advise you to go to the store as soon as possible to have them tell you what they could do.

Thank you for reaching out to us about this and I hope the return is processed to your satisfaction.

Regards,
