Rear Projection Bulb Replacement under Extended Warranty

Four years ago, I bought a SONY SXRD rear projection LCOS TV. I bought an extended warranty program which is about to expire. I have been given the option to extend it by another 3 years using the Black Tie plan. Under my current plan, I had the option of getting upto TWO projection bulbs replaced over the 4 year period. Now, under this Black Tie plan which was supposedly going to be the same coverage I had before, I am only given a ONE bulb replacement option over the extended period.

Has Best Buy reduced it to one in recent years?

Another question I have is what is the policy for loaner TVs under Black Tie? I think if I have a 60 inch TV and it can't be repaired in a few days(or can't even get an appointment set), I should be given a loaner tv to spare me the stress.

Twice in the past, the week or two week long outages came at the worst possible times.

Re: Rear Projection Bulb Replacement under Extended Warranty

Well I currently have no problems with the TV.

What I am curious about is the lack of a loaner TV if even an appointment can't be set for at least a week out with the subsequent repair taking around 2 weeks.

ANd also, i would be curious about when the replacement bulb policy has been changed for extended warranties. It was 2 when I purchased mine and if I extend it, it looks like Black Tie provides only one.

Re: Rear Projection Bulb Replacement under Extended Warranty

Hi mantar,

I was happy to see this question, and have the opportunity to provide clarification for you and anyone else contemplating the same decision.

I do see that you purchased a Performance Service Plan (PSP) to provide coverage on your TV beyond the manufacturer’s warranty. We do allow a customer to renew their service plan once prior to it expiring, and the renewed plan would have basically the same coverage. The one exception is that the terms and conditions of the renewed service plan would not include the No Lemon cause that your initial plan included.

I should point out that if you choose to renew your PSP it would remain a PSP, and would not be a Geek Squad Black Tie Protection (GSBTP) plan. This is important to point out because it is relevant to your inquiry of if you would be given a loaner TV if your TV ends up being repaired.

A Premium GSBTP plan does provide a customer with a loaner TV if on the first visit by a technician they are not able to repair the TV. This coverage is not in the terms and conditions of your PSP, nor would it be in the terms and conditions of your PSP if you renewed it.

Lastly I would like to address your question of how many lamps are covered by your PSP. The terms and conditions of the PSP you purchased in 2005 state that you get one free lamp replacement during the life of the plan. I hope this answers your questions!

Thanks for posting,
