Re: Toshiba 50HP66 They know it's a lemon

OK, So I have the same issue with my Toshiba 50HP66 Plasma TV.  And yes I was fortunate enough to have purchased the service contract.  But the problem is if Toshiba and Best Buy both know that the TV has this issue, why isn't someone trying to mak it right?  I purchased the TV for 2100.00 and I'm here to tell you that if it cannot last longer than a couple of years before I have to have it worked on, it surely isn't worth the money.  I had a 32" Pro Scan that we used for over 10 years prior to this tv and NEVER had it worked on.  Kids played Nintendo games for hours on end and never had an issue.  This TV only gets used a couple hours at most on weekdays and a 5 to 8 hours on Weekends and it fails after 2 years.

I'm still waiting for a service tech to come and repair the TV, I get more run arounds that the horse track.  They schedule service just to call and state that they have over booked and then I have to wait 2 to 3 more days fo the scheduling of another tech that will only be in my area on a certain day of the week.  Going on 3 weeks now.  I even know what the problem is and the correct part to fix the thing, but if I work on it, it voids my service contract.  So you know, this is BS.  The part number to repair the TV is 75003044 and it is the Power PCB ASM 50HP.  this is the part that fails in the TV if anyone needs to know.  Everyone on the internet knows, but no one from Toshiba will acknowledge it.

Re: Toshiba 50HP66 They know it's a lemon

I do not work for Best Buy but I do shop there alot and recently had a problem but it has been resolved, but your problem I don't feel is Best Buys fault.  I check out prices and reviews on atleast 4 different sites in regards to anything I am buying to make sure there are no problems I need to know about.  Thats why Best Buy has reviews available on there website. To say Best Buy took your money and they don't care because you bought the tv is wrong.  They didn't force you to buy it and as I mentioned you have a lot of options to find info out about bascially anything your buying.   As for something in the $1000 range depending on what size I would recommend Samsung, Sony, Sharp but only the Aquos, and even though most people wouldn't agree Insignia,  Try to find a floor model in your local store as sometimes they are significantly reduced.  But I would recommend getting the Black Tie Protection it may be a hassle in some cases but you aren't spending any money if the TV breaks.  I would also say your better off with a Samsung as time goes on because if it ever does have to be replaced under the service plan not to many other brands are COMPARABLE with features and the Quality of Samsung so you might have more of a chance getting the complete value back.

Re: Toshiba 50HP66 They know it's a lemon

Hi vmgordon,

I definitely agree that three weeks without even having your TV looked at by a technician seems excessive, and after being patient I am sure being asked to reschedule your appointment was very upsetting.

If the problem with your TV is a known issue with your model and it is considered a defect in all models Toshiba should issue a recall on this model. I have a feeling that most consumer electronics made nowadays won’t last nearly as long as the consumer electronics purchased in past years, and an example of this that I have is my ten year old 50 inch RCA Tube TV that has gotten daily use since I purchased it and is still going strong.

I would like to offer my services as an advocate on your behalf in this repair and am sending you a private message to get the ball rolling. To check your message you should log into the forum and then click on the letter icon in the upper right-hand corner of the page.

Thanks for posting your concern,
Allan
