December 3, 2009 -- 8:00PM I purchased a portable air condiion unit for about $400.00 back in September 11, 2008 with an extended 2 year in-home service warranty. The unit worked just fine until September 2009. I took the a/c unit on October 15, 2009, to Best Buy Geek's desk and was overwhelm with politeness. I left the unit because supposely the store was shipping to Dallas, Texas for repairs. Six weeks went by and all I got was a UPS Express Mail with a letter from Best Buy to pickup the A/C unit at the store. Assuming the unit was repaired I was surprise to learn otherwise. The unit was sitting in the store since Oct. 15th! Today when I went to pick up the unit, the Geek employee reassured me that by calling the 1-888-bestbuy I could schedule in-home service. I did call that number and spoke with an appliance service technician and her supervisor. Apparently, both now tell me that I have to take the unit back to the store to be fix?! I called the store and spoke to two manager explaining in detail every account since Oct. 15, and I was reassured that the matter would be resolved today. No calls. No email. And when I went to the store I was told that nothing could be done!? I'm going to give the store a few days before, #1 lobbying with members of a consumer advocate non-profit organization in front of the store until Christmas Eve to inform consumers about Best Buy's extended warranty unethical practices and false advertisement, #2 there is a national known attorney that is taking complaint for a class action lawsuit vs Best Buy. I should had google Best Buy extended warranty before buying an expensive one. I will keep you all posted here and in other blogs if and when the issue is resolved. Mark

Hey SanAntonio,

Although Best Buy does offer in-home service for many major appliances, such as refrigerators and dishwashers, all of our service plans for portable electronics require that customers bring the product to one of our retail stores for repairs.  I’m not quite sure why there would have been any confusion regarding this policy, but I apologize for any inconvenience you may have encountered.

If you have not already spoken with an in-store technician regarding this issue, I would invite you to send me a private message.  I would be glad to partner with your local store to see that your air conditioner is repaired under your service plan coverage.  You can send me a private message by signing into the forum and then clicking on either my signature below or the letter icon in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
