I sent my ps3 in for repair 10 days ago, I should say I mailed it to a post office in Texas where it now sits for the last 3 days. I usually don't purchase extended warranties. In this case I broke my rule and spent an additional 99.00 on a Best Buy warranty, what a mistake. I read a few of the other post here and it don't suprise me that it's taking months to get items repaired, when in reality it should take maybe a week to 2. There is no reason it should take them months to get replacement parts, heck you could be living in a third world country and get parts faster than that. So if thats not the case, than the only other thing it could be is a committment to service, or lack of committment in this case. It's funny how eager they are to take your money, as long as nothing breaks it's great, but Katie bar the door if something goes wrong. I cannot speak for anyone else, but they don't have to hit me over the head but once, I've learned my lesson, no more warranties for me.
I'm sure the moderator will leave me a polite email pointing out tha it's only been 10 days, so I'm going to post my reply right now.
I have a friend, his ps3 broke 3 months ago. His manufactor warranty had expired, so he called Sony to get it repaired. It cost him 130.00 to get it repaired, that included all shipping cost and sending
him a box priority to send his ps3 in. They could not repair his ps3 so they sent him a refurbished unit with a 90 day warranty and it took 15 days total from the time he made the call until he received a working unit. Now that's service, something you aren't going to see around here.
Not only do i suspect that it will take at least a month to get my ps3 repaired, but it's going to cost me more money to do so.
The warranty at Best Buy cost me 99.00. When it quit working there was a game disk in it that cost 60.00, and they will not return it so my total cost will be 159.00
If I did not have the warranty Sony charges 130.00 and would have returned the game, so my total cost would have been 130.00
So in the end would have saved 30.00, get superior service, and been much happier.

Hey lingo250,
Chances are that if you purchased additional coverage through Best Buy® on a PS3, you most likely bought a Best Buy® Product Replacement Plan (PRP). Unlike our Product Service Plans (PSP), PRP’s do not generally allow for repairs. Whenever you file a claim for a defective product that is covered by a PRP, you are instead issued a Best Buy® gift card for the original purchase price of that product.
Here’s how the process works. When you call our toll-free PRP hotline at 1-888-539-6883, Best Buy® sends you a postage-paid mailing sticker/envelope to ship the defective product back to us. Once we’ve received the product, we then issue you a gift card (again, for the original purchase price) which often takes 7-10 business days to arrive. The gift card is yours to use as you see fit, and can be used to purchase anything at your local Best Buy® store or on BestBuy.com.
If you’re already sent your PS3 back to us but have not received your gift card, I would be glad to provide you with some additional information. Please keep an eye on your private messages for further communication.
Thanks,

Aaron,
I've already mailed my ps3 in to dallas 10/14/08 using the label provided, and it arrived 10/21/08.
I sent the package delivery confirmation with insurance, and as of today 10/27/08 they
have not picked it up. The post office will only hold it so many days, and if it's not claimed will return it to me. I have no problem with the fact that it might take 7-10 days to get the gift card once they receive the package, where my problem is if they are going to pick it up at all.

Aaron,
I never received your email, if you have sent it, please re-send.
My email is correct because I received welcome email when I joined this forum.
I've also checked my spam folder.
Thank you

I Think Aaron meant a private message here on the BBY Forum rather than to your private email.

Hey again lingo250,
Because our PRP department has already confirmed that they have received your PS3, there really isn’t much else that we can do at this point in time. Whether or not they actually have the unit on-hand does not necessarily make a difference to them, as they have already issued a gift card on your behalf. Even if the post office ultimately returns the defective PS3 to you, nothing really changes - you would still receive the gift card within the originally quoted timeframe.
Thanks again,
Agent Aaron
