My son bought a Lenovo B560 Laptop from Best buy last may and he is starting to have problems with it locking up on him. Also. only one of the USB ports work as the other 3 USB ports do not appear to have power.
He tells me that Best buy gave him a 1 year warranty but here is the kicker... He is currently in Germany with this laptop and will not return until July. I could have him send it back here so that I can take it in but thought that it might be wise to see if anyone has any suggestions on things that he might try.
So far he has scanned his laptop with malwarebytes and Microsoft essentials which found not malware or suspicious files.
Here is the info that he sent me via email:
Lenovo B560 Laptop
255 gb harddrive
4 gb ram
4 USB ports (only one works[back left])
Windows 7 home premium
Issues:
random freezing (only shutting down computer solves problem)
Whenever I plug a device (like my external graphics card) my laptop just shuts down... Instantly. But when I plug a USB stick in, it works fine... But only in that port. The other ports don't seem to have ANY power, nor do they show up in device manager as "not working."
Sometimes the computer will freeze, but will show the display changing solid colors...
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks

If your son purchased Black Tie Protection on the machine he would be able to get it serviced internationally and reimbursed via www.bbyintl.com. If the machine is just under the 1 yr manufacturer warranty you'll want to check with Lenovo on if it can be serviced internationally or if it needs to be mailed back to the US for service. Most manufacturer warranties don't cover international repairs.

How can I tell if he purchased the black tie protection package?
Is there some way that I can check?

If you have a copy of the receipt it will be on there as an item purchased. Usually with BTP or ADH BTP as part of the item description.

Thanks, I will check it tonight.
If he did not buy the black tie protection (which I assume is an aditional cost) where might I find contacvt info for
Lenovo? Do you know if they have a web site that I can use to contact them?
thanks again
