Nikon D60 (PSP)

I bought a Nikon D60 on 02/03/2009, and I bought the PSP plan for 4 yeas i have paid $149.99 for the plan, the sales person told me that the PSP plan will cover accidental damages, but when i read the greek squad black tie protection guide lines it says in the exclusion to coverage that the plan doesn't cover damage to your product caused by accident ! did the sales person lie to me about this ?

My question is does the PSP plan i bought cover accidental damages or not ! if my camera were dropped and got broken or dropped in a  water by accident, would the PSP plan cover that or not?! I and would they replace it or get it fixed? hope i get the answer from you guys. i have been a good customer to best buy and i hope that i haven't been lied to just like that.

Re: Nikon D60 (PSP)

Do you have your receipt? If you have accidental coverage, it will say "ADH" on the receipt.

BTW, keep in mind that no GSBTP plan that BB sells covers submersion in water.

Hello nas2221,

Excellent question!  When Best Buy first introduced Geek Squad Black Tie Protection (GSBTP) on 09/14/2008 one of the biggest changes that occurred to our service plans was that Accidental Damage from Handling (ADH) coverage became a standard feature of our digital imaging plans.  This means that if you purchased your camera and service plan anytime after this date your plan would provide coverage for damages due to the camera falling off a couch, having a cup of coffee spilled on it, and other damages that might reasonably occur over the course of normal use.  Like Nokia mentioned, however, there are some exclusions to this coverage.  Here are a few types of damage that would not be covered:

  • Accidental loss
  • Biological contamination
  • Complete immersion in water
  • Extreme environmental conditions (heat or cold)
  • Insect infestation
  • Neglect (such as falling off the roof of a moving vehicle or balcony, being buried by pets, etc.)
  • Rodents
  • Theft
  • Unauthorized repairs or modifications

This list is by no means all-inclusive, so make sure to check the terms and conditions outlined in your service plan brochure for additional details.

As far as the repair process is concerned, both our service plans and most factory warranties require that repairs be sought first and foremost.  Your camera would only qualify for an exchange then if replacement parts cannot be obtained, repairs are deemed uneconomical by the service center, or if your camera meets the requirements of our No Lemon policy (three previous qualifying hardware repairs and a fourth confirmed hardware failure).
