Nikon Coolpix s210. malfunction causes accident..... O.o

okay, i got the camera as a christmas present recently and it was working perfectly fine, when about a month and a half later  the lens randomly starts getting stuck out and making these really weird grinding and buzzing noises and the "lens error" message kept poppin up. I could eventually coax the lens back to where its supposed to be by turning the camera off and then back on.. One time, it was so bad even turning it off wouldn't work and it kept making these noises, so i took the battery out for about 3 minutes, and it was okay, until the next day, when it happeded again. yesterday, I was with my friends making our videos and the lens started acting up again. While trying to remove the battery the camera fell out of my hand and onto my porch, jamming the lens so it won't go back in, the lens itself is fine, it just won't move.. The camera wouldn't have dropped if the lens had been working like it was supposed to, so will the BlackTie GeekSquad fix it? or am i going to be grounded for the rest of my life??? I have all the paper work that came with the camera.

Bebe,

I think my first question is do you in fact have Best Buys Geek Squad Black Tie Protection? If you do I would bring your item to the store and have an agent take a look at it and see what he/she is able to do.

Even without the GSBTP your mfg warranty should still be in effect.  I understand this camera was "dropped" I would NOT mention that to the Geeks Squad person, I would say it just stopped working, it may come back they say the damage is from it being dropped but if you come out and say that chances are they wont even send it out. Good luck, cross your fingers, and toes :smileyhappy:

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.

Re: Nikon Coolpix s210. malfunction causes accident..... O.o

Hi BeBe,

If you’re anything like me not having a working camera would be extremely frustrating, and as long as the problem is covered by your manufacturer’s warranty or your Geek Squad Black Tie Protection plan (GSBTP) the store should be able to send it out for service at no charge to you.

The manufacturer’s warranty should only cover defects in the manufacturer of your camera, and accidents would not be covered. We do sell GSBTP plans that cover Accidental Damage from Handling (ADH), and if you the plan you purchased with your camera has ADH coverage your camera should be repaired even if the problem is determined to have been caused by you dropping the camera.

If you didn’t get ADH coverage with your camera, it would be up to the technician that looks at your camera to determine if the camera isn’t working because of a defect or damage. If they determine the camera isn’t working because of a defect the repair should be covered, but if they determine your camera isn’t working because of damage the repair would be at cost to you.

Lens problems in Point and Shoot cameras are common, and they are usually caused by something being stuck inside the lens obstructing the movement of the lens (i.e. Sand). I have a more detailed description of this on the Cameras and Camcorders board. If you’re not sure what type of plan you have, or you need any assistance from me just send me a private message.
