Yes.

Unfortunately, that's the bad luck of any electronic, there's going to be bad Apples... wait that's a horrible pun.

Re: Jailbreaking an iPod touch

Do not be afraid to jailbreak your iPod. You can always RESTORE it within iTunes to factory defaults.

Software is generally not covered under any type of warranty anyways and that is what you are "jailbreaking".

When you are under warranty/service plan you are basically covered for the device itself and not the software.

Jailbreak away, but be aware that it may bring harm to your unit or at least to the iOS depending on what you install. The iOS is restricted so users cannot normally corrupt it, but when you jailbreak the iOS of your iPod touch you will make it more free and changeable... which can cause problems just like with a Windows based PC. Know what you're changing before you do it and create back ups in case of problems.

If you have to send your iPod in for repair or exchange just restore it to factory settings. The unit will need to have the original software on it to be serviced and covered under your protection plan/warranty.

Let me know if you have any questions.
Take care.

Re: Jailbreaking an iPod touch

But to reiterate... I must say to use caution if you continue to proceed... there is always a chance you may ruin your device when doing such things. Jailbreaking is LEGAL, but it does void your warranty while Jailbroken or if your device becomes unusable by jailbreaking it will void your warranty.
Be careful.

Take care.

Re: Jailbreaking an iPod touch

There's really nothing to worry about.

Yes, it voids your warranty, but you can always restore it if something goes wrong. And besides that, it's impossible to tell the difference between an iPod that's been jailbroken and subsequently restored and one that's never been jailbroken.

Re: Jailbreaking an iPod touch

Google ipod jailbroken cannot be restored... and see how that goes. If incorrectly done, the device can occasionally become completely unusable and unrestorable. That is where the risk comes in.

True: but as far as I know, a bricked iPhone usually comes from user error. If you just follow the instructions to the letter, it should come out fine.

Heck, I messed up three times jailbreaking mine. I was completely freaked out. I thought I'd bricked it. It worked fine.

Re: Jailbreaking an iPod touch

Yes, but it's worth mentioning. If the OP is not computer savvy at all and DOES mess it up while jailbreaking, he's screwed because his warranty is voided. If the risk isn't mentioned and he breaks it, he'll be back here upset because "Everyone told him it'd be fine".
