My friend bought a Dell - Studio XPS Laptop with Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P8600 for me ( http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9150
Our records show that your Dell product support warranty has expired. We are
still here for you and offer a variety of solutions, some of which are listed below.
Service Tag: 36F58J1
System Type: Studio XPS Laptop 1340
Ship Date: 3/1/2009
Dell IBU: Americas
So what can I do? I see no glue on the Dell to show that it was bought from BestBuy except for the BestBuy receipt. So how can I get warantted by BestBuy if I loose the receipt? There is no warantee paper, and no protection stamp on my laptop.

What you need to do is register the system with Dell, so that they know the system is active and in-use by you.
Use this link to register your product with Dell:
http://support.dell.com/support/topics/topic.aspx/
On the second page, obviously select Best Buy as the retailer it was purchasd at.
I believe the page says it can take up to "5 days" for the system to become active in their system... although my experience, its more like 24 hours. After that, you will have the FULL 1-year Dell warranty on your system.
Best of luck...

Welcome to the forums, NBLam!
Excellent question which you will find Eric has aptly answered. Best Buy is a reseller retailer for Dell products andtherefore the temporary registrant of the equipment. Please register at the website given (also known as http://tinyurl.com/bbydelltoo). Send me a private message if you have any difficulty after that process is completed.

Hi Ary and Matthew,
Thank you very much for replying to my question regarding Dell's warantee for my laptop bought at BestBuy. I am still concerning if it is normal that there is no waranttee paper nor protection/valid stamp on any part of my laptop. As I said my friend bought it for me from BB and I did not know what happened. I only have the laptop and a BestBuy receipt now. So can the registration process serve to make sure the 1-year warantee with Dell or I need to do anything else? Thanks.
Regards,
NBLam

Once registered, you are good to go. The registration is based on that service tag that is on the bottom of the PC, and thats what Dell will use to verify the machine is the one in question when assisting you with support services. They won't even ask you for the Best Buy receipt, if you obtain warranty repair work through Dell. The only time you would need the Best Buy receipt is if you take it to Best Buy and have them service the laptop. No extra paperwork needed.
Best of luck and enjoy your laptop! I purchased a Studio 15 from Best Buy and I really do like it a lot, and I've contacted Dell a couple of times (via web chat) for some questions, and they've been great. (Well, as great as outsourced customer service can be, of course... hehehe).
Best of luck...
