Interesting tidbit of information...apparently the motherboard on my DV6 is one of the ones that was recalled a couple of years ago after numerous complaints from customers that it had fried and melted components in the computer. I'll be taking it up with HP first, then bringing it in if nothing else.

Hello Kyle (DJ_Aura),
We regret hearing about your notebook challenge. You indicate, "Interesting tidbit of information...apparently the motherboard on my DV6 is one of the ones that was recalled a couple of years ago after numerous complaints from customers that it had fried and melted components in the computer. I'll be taking it up with HP first, then bringing it in if nothing else."
If you bought your notebook in 2010 as one of your responses indicates, it would not be under what you may be referring to as the Nvidia class action. I am not aware of any recent recalls for DV6 notebooks. If you send me via Best Buy's email or via PSGSocialMedia@hp.com your product number and serial number I will be happy to check to see if there were any alerts for this product number/serial number combination. If you have the protection plan with Best Buy you may want to go ahead and work with the Best Buy Connector who will be assisting you.

Just to update, haven't had a chance to get an OS onto my hard drive again (Ended up having to buy a new HD because the previous one was lost...purchased a "placeholder" that was 250GB, whatever happens to it is not my concern). Anyways, I have to still go into the store to check if I can get it fixed.
My question is now...if the seal under the battery was broken, is there ANY opportunity that I can even attempt to get the laptop fixed? Or is it a lost cause?

Thanks for keeping us posted and I'm very sorry that you learned that your HP repair is so expensive to repair. It is true that service repairs generally take 2-4 weeks to complete. If you'd like to send me a private message with service order details, I'd be happy to keep an eye on this for you and provide you with updates. Feel free to reply to this topic with any other comments that you might have on the topic.
