Laptop is 4 weeks past 2 yr Best Buy Black Tie protection... I bring it in, and they do a diagnostic. The screen is a zillion colors when you open and close the screen. THEY tell me. Go on E*** and purchase a screen for this laptop and they will install it for 50 bucks. Ok.. Done. Bring it in.. they say it will be ready the next day. I call, not ready. A week later, no call. I call THEM. OH, we put the new screen in but it's doing the same thing! Must be the cable, we'll check it and call you back. YET another week goes by. No Call! I call them. Oh, we all know about that laptop. We're sorry, we do'nt know what it is, must need a motherboard! That is going to cost a lot of money they say! Well, I don't have a lot of money and the computer WORKED before I brought it in, ya just had to put the monitor in the right spot! They said, you can just buy a new one for what it's going to cost to fix this one! HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!! I've already paid 150 dollars for the screen and installation. If I had the money I would have got a new one. BUT why, I ask why, everytime I bring a laptop in there and they can't figure it out, they need to put in a new motherboard?????? Or a new Hard drive??? This family has 5 laptops in it, anytime something goes wrong, they put a motherboard in it... wth is that about???????? THEY told me what the problem was, THEY told me what to buy to fix it. NOW they can't fix it. I need something done, give me my money back or replace the darn thing cause you LIED! My last laptop was 8 months old. The adapter got caught in the laptop. Worked fine but wouldn't charge once the battery died. OMG, AFTER A MONTH they tell me.. Oh we neeed to junk it and will give you a new one. WHAT?????????? what did ya do to it????? OMG i am so mad you have no idea. Who can I talk to about this ??? I never get mad, and I'm really mad now!

I stick with desktops for that reason, and many more. Anyway, I would suggest looking around the web for a similar problem and try to find out how that person fixed it. If it seems like something you don't feel safe doing, just mention to the person you have work on it(geeksquad) that another person fixed the same problem by doing whatnot. Might set them straight on what their doing. Beef up on your knowledge of computer parts and how they work. Might help you understand and fix the problem.

Have you ever taken your care to a shop and had them misdiagnose something? It happens. Is it unfortunate? Yes.
Ultimately, you're beyond the 2 year BTP so all costs are going to have to come out of your pocket anyway. Who's to say the monitor wasn't bad as well?

himandmex6,
Thank you for posting to our forum! I was sorry to read about the experience you’ve been having with getting your notebook computer back up and running. It can be difficult at times with such confined technology to determine the genesis of the problem. Even more difficult is when you have to wait for repairs, not getting a call when you’re supposed to and the need to come back into our store for possible resolutions. It is with regret that I read about how much you’ve had to invest in your time, phone calls and money to try to get repairs on your computer.
I must say that with some computer repair issues it does involve a little troubleshooting. It seems that this is what the store has done, to try the screen first as that is what is malfunctioning apparently. I am sorry that we haven’t been able to provide a full resolution for you in this as of the time of this writing. I would be happy to connect with you about your previous computer repair as well as this one. I have sent you a private message to collect some further details. To check your private messages first make sure that you are logged into the forum. Then click the link that looks like an envelope in the upper right hand corner of the page.
I look forward to working with you.
