Feel like I've been decieved by Best Buy....

I purchased a Mac Book Pro 15" in 2008 and bought the Accidental Black Tie Protection because the salesman talked me into it.   He said verbatim "Even if it fell in the swimming pool, or if you run it over with your car in accident, it'll be covered."  I usually dont buy warrantied but since this is my first Mac, I thought I would.

Two weeks ago I was running back upto my apt in the rain and my Mac fell out of my laptop case while I was running up the stairs, fell down the steps and landed in to a small puddle.  After opening the laptop when I got in my apt, it made some wierd noises and the screen went off...

I sent it in through a Best Buy store and after a week, I get a call from the repair department that the insurance company rejected it because: 1) The small puddle is considered "submerged" and 2) it doesnt cover rainwater.  He also told me there were many exclusions to the Accidental Plan, which I was never told.  I also found out that examples the salesman gave me (swimming pool, car running over it) WASNT COVERED! He flat out lied to me to get me to purchase the warranty.

Then I call corporate seeing if this could be overturned, the supervisor at the Customer Relations department told me nothing can be done, because 1) the puddle is considered submerged, and 2) I wasnt using the laptop while the accident happened!! What is this!! The puddle is not more than 2-3 cups of water and was NOT submereged.  It being in a swimming pool would be submerged... I cant believe this is hapenning to me.

Is there any way I can get this repaired?  I was laid off 2 months ago and this is my LIFELINE to surviving. Im a freelancer now and fully depend on my laptop to make money to eat!  I feel like a victim in a scam, where I paid 400 dollars for nothing.  And there is no way to prove that the salesman told me this information....

WHAT CAN I DO??  Someone please help.

Re: Feel like I've been decieved by Best Buy....

If you would have read the warranty brochure on ADH, you would have noticed that situations like you described are usually considered negligence and aren't covered.  I do understand that the sale associate grossly mis-informed you, but that is why it's always the consumers responsibility to read what he/she is signing FULLY before doing so.  The repair facility was probably considering the puddle as submerging the laptop b/c the only type of water damage that would probably be covered under the ADH plan would probably be if a small amount of liquid was spilled on the laptop.  A Community Connector should be long sometime to assign this thread to someone to work w/ you towards a resolution, but I don't know what any of them will be able to do.  You already called corporate you stated, and that is also where all the CCs work.

That is correct.  The OP may still return his/her GSBTP warranty for a pro-rated refund.

Yes, it's an accidental protection plan, that doesn't cover accidents. It's a matter of time before legal action makes bestbuy change the name. I'm sure they realize that at the top as well.

Re: Feel like I've been decieved by Best Buy....

Simedru24,

After reading your post, I was disappointed to hear that we were unable to repair your computer, due to the diagnosis that the unit was submerged in water.  I can certainly understand how this would be frustrating for you.  We would unfortunately find this diagnosis misuse and abuse; therefore we could not cover the repairs to your Mac Book.

I sincerely apologize if you stated your were told different terms and conditions of the plan at the time of purchase.  These details would be noted in the actual plans terms and conditions that you were provided when making your purchase.

Feel free to contact me directly with any further questions or concerns.  You can message me by clicking on the link in my signature.
