Extended Warranty A RipOff

Do not buy the extended warranty from Best Buy for their products. They are not what they say. Mine came with a 2 yr manufacturer's warranty and then I paid for the extended 4 year warranty. Only to have my TV go out today and get told that their warranty supersede the 2 year one. So where I thought I was getting a manufacturer's and the 4 year one I wasn't.  I was only getting a 4 year one. SO AGAIN DO NOT BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY IT IS A RIPOFF. You wind up paying for A  4 year plan and only get 2 years.

Re: Extended Warranty A RipOff

The GSBTP covers more than the MFG warranty does so it overlaps the coverage of the MFG warranty.

For example, if you bought an iPad that has a 1yr MFG warranty and then purchase an extended 2yr service plan that covers drops and spills. If you drop your iPad within the first year, would it be acceptable for BB to say "Sorry, your accidental coverage doesn't start until next year...and as the MFG warranty doesn't cover drops and spills, we can't do anything for you."?

This is also outlined in the contract you signed with Best Buy....

"This Plan is inclusive of your product’s manufac-
turer’s warranty; it does not replace your product’s
manufacturer’s warranty, but it does provide certain
additional benefits as listed within this Plan during
the term of the manufacturer’s warranty."

davidson3883,

This company has an answer for everything.  I think they spend a lot of their time looking for loopholes to gain an advantage.  Eventually they will loose market share and change their ways, but that takes time until then LET THE BUYER BEWARE AND BUYERS BEWARE OF BEST BUY.  THERE IS NOTHING BEST ABOUT IT!!!

Re: Extended Warranty A RipOff

That's what I say. I had a lady yesterday going to buy 2 big TV's (she got a bonus at work) and told her DO NOT go here. And if you do DO NOT buy the warranty. It is a ripoff. She said service like that I will not even walk in their store. Word of mouth from customers is the best advertisement one can get. And they are getting lousy advertisement from me. I still am without a TV and will be until I get time to go somewhere else and look and buy.

Re: Extended Warranty A RipOff

Davidson3883,

I find it very odd that individuals who are "valued contributors" generically protect Best Buy.  To me it would be odd for someone to sit in front of their computer and protect Best Buy time and time again.  I have no proof, but these valued contributors and the ex geek squad employees seem very adamant that Best Buy has no culpability in this process.  Two and two are equaling four and a half and the extra half isn't in the customer's favor. LET THE BUYER BEWARE AND BUYERS BEWARE OF BEST BUY!!!  THERE IS NOTHING BEST ABOUT IT!!!
