Dishwasher Woes

In May 2008 we purchased a Frigidaire 4000 series dishwasher, Model FDBB4365FB. It worked fine for 7 months, then stopped draining or pumping out the soiled water. Instead, it recycled the soiled water through the rinse cycle, leaving the dishes soiled and a gallon or two of soapy, soiled water in the bottom of the dishwasher at the end of the cycle. Best Buy has sent their Geek Squad to the house twice since we first reported the problem to them. They've done what they could, but the unit is now nonfunctional, awaiting parts, and the manufacturer won't commit to a shipping date for the parts. Our calls to the manufacturer's customer service department, after some navigation through their automated telephone menu, connected us to a customer service representative in Manila (in the Philipine Islands) who had difficulty communicating in English. When we again phoned the manufacturer, we reached a customer service supervisor in Augusta, GA, who told us we should have called them before calling Best Buy, and then referred us to 3 local "approved" repairmen, none of whom answer their phones. In short, the unit we purchased is defective and the manufacturer's customer service representatives we have spoken with have not been helpful even though the unit is still under warranty. In fact, we feel as though we have been repeatedly scolded by both Best Buy and the manufacturer for not purchasing a Service Contract, though it's unclear to us how that would get our dishwasher repaired or replaced. We feel as though we've gotten nothing but a runaround and this has been going on for over 3 weeks. If Best Buy has someone reading this, we would appreciate it if someone could make us at least feel as though Best Buy was looking out for us and being proactively engaged in taking care of us, their customers. After 3 weeks of nonsuccess in the repair department, with a unit still under warranty, could Best Buy possibly replace the defective unit with a new one?

Re: Dishwasher Woes

Honestly.....Best Buy probably will not be able to help you as you have not purchased a Service Contract - that being said though your Frigidaire Dishwasher has "at least" a one year warranty and you should not be getting the run around you are getting.....

It sounds as if the problem has to due with a filter(maybe you can check yourself, typically located at bottom of dishwasher in the back area) or with the drain valve. Now the drain valve is a whole different issue that can cause other problems - back in late may - to - june, my drain valve was acting up just like yours is.....water being reused, not properly draining(a little would remain at the bottom of the dishwasher) so I ripped out the filters and cleaned them..."kind of" seemed like it was getting better, then one morning I woke up and saw a little puddle of water on the floor(thought the dogs knocked their water bowl over) and went to work - my wife woke up later and that stinking valve became so obstructed/malfunctioned that about 150gal of water(or more) ended up on my kitchen.....destoying the bottoms of my cabinets and the linoleum(sp?). Well needless to say the insurance company was not overly happy(although I did all the repairs myself) was a good $5000 repair....at least thats what they paid me :smileyhappy:

anyway....that part is DEFINATELY covered under your warranty(my dishwasher was helluva old) but I did actually purchase a new Frigidaire disherwasher to replace my old one.

My best advice is call frigidaire back(electrolux is their parent company) and tell them your product is under warranty and you do not want this issue to get drug out any longer as to cause a MUCH larger problem - if you have to, demand to talk to a supervisor and have THEM contact a repair company and fax over your warranty work so you don't have to fork out any money and try to recoup it....

Re: Dishwasher Woes

Hi Jim1001,

I am really sorry to hear that your dishwasher needs repair after only owning it for such a short time, as we strive to supply the highest quality merchandise from the most reliable manufacturers.  Also, while it is accurate that the Best Buy® Performance Service Plan (PSP) does provide additional benefits to the manufacturer’s warranty, it does not replace the manufacturer’s warranty, and I apologize for any misunderstanding.

I was able to look into your situation today and have sent you a private message with the information I found, which unfortunately, is not a new dishwasher but still good news!  To view your private message, please make sure you are logged into the forum, and then click on the envelope in the upper right-hand corner of the page.

Thank you and Happy New Year!
