Hello,
Thought I would share. I live about 30-40 minutes from the closest Best Buy store. On Christmas Eve 2009, I bought a 40" Dinex LCD Tv, Dinex Upconvert DVD player, 2 Dinex HDMI cables, and the Geek Squad 4 year protection plan. Set the Tv up and could not get it to work with the HDMI cables. Called the geek squad number Christmas day and was surprised to get an answer. We went through some troubleshooting, but nothing would work. (TV worked fine with component cables and A/V cables, but not HDMI, the DVD player never worked right). The geek squad guy set up a service call for 2 business days later (4 days with the weekend). On the day of the service call, the tech calls me and tells me the tv probably needs parts that will take about 15 days to get in. He said he'd be happy to come out but that he would suggest taking the tv back and exchanging it.
So on New Years Eve I took the TV and DVD player back and exchanged them with no problems. Took the new (2nd) TV home, hooked it up, and same thing, but now the DVD player works with A/V cables but still no HDMI with DVD player or cable box. Call geek squad again and go through troubleshooting again, and again set up an appt. This time 5 days later (today). Tech comes out today and says the TV is broken, HDMI doesn't work. Hmmm..... Surprise, Surprise. He says to take it back to Best Buy and exchange again.
So now I have to make my 3rd trip to Best Buy to get a TV. Crazy. Thinking about just getting refund and heading to Wally world or somewhere closer that has TV's that work. Something about fool me once shame on you, shame me twice......
Anybody else have problems with these TV's? or did I get the 2 bad ones out of the bunch, along with the bad DVD player?
Thanks,
Chris

Silly question, but are you sure the DVD player and cable box are outputting through HDMI? Many of them have to be manually switched to use those outputs.
I don't see a reason to stop shopping at BB because of this. Dynex TVs are the lowest-quality TVs BB sells, so you get what you pay for. You'd likely have the same experience if you bought a Durabrand (or whatever WM's store brand is) TV from WM. If you're determined to spend bargain-basement prices, you'll get low-quality products, and have no reason to complain. However, if you're willing to spend a bit more and get something like an Insignia or LG, your satisfaction will rise accordingly.

Total purchase was around $800 Might not be alot to you, but is quite a bit for me. I know it is bottom barrell as far as Tv prices, but I was assured by the salesman it was a decent quality Tv.

Went through all of the troubleshooting, cable box and dvd player with geek squad. Tv tech came today with his signal meter thingy, signal was going through hdmi from both devices, but Tv is not reading them.

No reason to complain that the Tv's (2 now) have HDMI inputs, advertise HDMI inputs, I was sold by Best Buy salesman on the HDMI cables, and then they don't work. No matter what the price, a product should work as advertised. So because I buy "cheaper" Tv, I should expect to have to make multiple trips over the course of weeks to get one that works?

I was told Dinex was made by LG for Best Buy.
Thanks for your assistance and words of wisdom,
Chris

Yes, you're right, your TV should work as advertised. However, lower prices also means less QC, so more "bad apples" get out. How do you think WM is able to sell stuff so cheap?
I'm not sure if Dynex is made by LG. I don't believe they are. I think they're just made by some contract factory in Shenzhen. I believe many Insignia sets are produced by LG, but it varies by model. Also, while they may be manufactured under contract by LG, that is not necessarily an indication of quality. Those sets are made to BB's specs, which can be different from LG's.
I'd never get a Dynex as a primary TV. Maybe something for a bedroom or den.

Hey CKinsey,
Being able to purchase a new television, no matter the price, is never a small investment. I’m disappointed to read about your Dynex television purchase experience and the setup issues that followed. I would feel similarly concerned if I experienced what you describe.
I cannot offer explanation for the problems you encountered with your Dynex television and DVD player. I can personally say, however, that I have not heard about this issue before. So you may have indeed received a couple bad televisions, but I’m also not the Geek Squad® technician who tried troubleshooting the issue or repair your television. Either way, it sounds like returning the television may be the best option.
Regrettably I understand why you’re aggravated about having to make a 3rd trip to the store, and I extend my deepest apologies for any inconvenience. I will surely document your concerns so they may be properly addressed within Best Buy®.
Thank you for sharing with us on the forum!
Cheers,
