Damaged Pixels

I bought a laptop at Best Buy on 6/6/09. I have noticed some damaged pixels. Will I be able to exchange my laptop for the same thing?

Re: Damaged Pixels

What do you mean by "damaged pixels"? If you mean dead or stuck pixels, then that depends on the laptop. All mfgs. have a certain number of dead/stuck pixels required before it falls under warranty, and often those pixels have to be within a certain size area. If your item does not meet the requirements, then you will still be able to exchange it, but you'll have to pay the 15% restocking fee due to it not being considered defective by the mfg.

Re: Damaged Pixels

How many dead/stuck pixels are there? As Nokia hinted to most manufacturers have a rule of usually 3 dead pixels.

One thing you can try is a pixel fixer. Just google it. It is an application that runs all these different patterns on your screen and if there are pixels that are just stuck or frozen then it will unstick them.

It's a free appliction and worth the try.

Re: Damaged Pixels

I have tried the Pixel Fixer on Google. It didn't work. I believe it is a group of pixels 2x2.

I can't just exchange it at Best Buy when it is within the 14 day warranty? Then what is the warranty for?

Re: Damaged Pixels

You can try to exchange it. It would be up to the store. I agree with you about the warranty. A dead pixel sticks out like a sore thumb and should be replaced under warranty.

Re: Damaged Pixels

As I noted, yes, you can still exchange it. However, if it is not considered defective under the mfg. warranty, then you would have to pay a restocking fee.

The beeping sounds normal. Does it read the discs fine?
