Casio Cameras

Hi!

I bought a casio camera in June. The lens stopped opening and closing in October. Since the manufacture states they warranty their items for a year I called and sent in all the appropriate stuff for the repair.....well guess what? They don't stand behind their products! They claim that this problem was from dropping the camera? They want more money for the repair than I paid for the product!! I even had the repair reviewed by a manager! Then come to find out the lens retract problem is common in these cameras. So I am leaving this info for anyone who is thinking of buying anything from Casio. I don't buy the store warrantys because I won't pay twice for the same thing. I feel like I was really ripped off here and Best Buy won't let me return it.

Re: Casio Cameras

Hi Nfeeny1,

I can only imagine sending your camera out to the manufacturer expecting it to be repaired, and then to find out the manufacturer won’t cover the repair, and how frustrating that must be. It is correct that if an authorized service technician has determined that the lens is damaged the repair would not be covered by the manufacturer’s warranty. Best Buy® does allow customer’s 14 days to determine if the digital camera they purchased meets their expectations and if it doesn’t we would then return it or exchange it for a camera that does fit their needs.

While you are correct that the lens not opening or closing is a common problem; it does occur in almost all point and shoot cameras. This problem is usually caused by the lens being bumped while it is extended, or if the movement of the lens is somehow obstructed while the lens is trying to extend. Most manufacturers consider this problem to be caused by damage to the camera, and usually do not cover the repair of the camera.

I would like to try and find a solution to your issue. I am sending you a private message; to check your messages log into the forum, and click the letter icon in the upper right-hand corner of the page.

Re: Casio Cameras

Hi Allan, just wondering what solution you have come up with Nfeeny1.  I too have the same

exact problem, and the camera has been well cared for, never dropped or damaged.

A quick Google search confirms that many others are experiencing this issue as well

with the Casio EX-S880, a good quantity seem to be lemons.

I purchased the camera at Best Buy, and would like a resolution to this as well.

You can send me a private message.  I appreciate all your help.

Thanks,

GM
