Hello,
Because the canadian dollar is doing so well, i plan on making a trip to the states very soon and purchasing a Dell laptop from Best Buy. I have a question regarding the Geek Squad Black Tie Proection Plan. I understand that it has international coverage but according to the brouchure, i quote "Coverage under this Plan may be available on a limited basis outside of the United States, or details call 1-800-GEEKSQUAD." After making calls to that number, and being redirected about 3 times, i found no one that either knew what this plan was, or had any solid information regarding what "limited basis" meant. My question is being in Canada, will the laptop be covered here, without me having to go back to the States?
Now, another problem is that Dell's original manufacturer warranty covers the laptop only in the country that the product was purchased from (which is the States). If i buy the GSBTP plan, and a problem happens in the first year, will I HAVE TO go through Dell? Meaning will I have to take my laptop back to the States for servicing, etc? Or will the GSBTP plan cover me in that first year here in Canada, so I won't have to make that trip back to the States?
Thanks. A reply from a Best Buy official would be great ASAP, as I plan on making the trip within this or next week.

You are correct in stating that the GSBTP is international. To receive service in Canada, you'd dial Canada's exit code + 800-556-56565. The employees at that number will direct you to the nearest authorized service center. You'll go to to that repair shop, have the computer repaired, pay the bill, and then send the receipt into the address that the above number gives you. BB will send you out a reimbursement check.
Saying repair service is on a "limited basis" is just a legal cover. For example, if you're in Antarctica, obviously you will not be able to get your laptop serviced locally!
BB will be your point of contact for all repairs. You will not have to deal with Dell.

I won't have to deal with Dell even in the first year? Are you sure of this???

Yes. The GSBTP runs concurrent with Dell's warranty.

Lol, nice edit
. Thanks for the replies Nokia, but can anyone from the community connector team verify this? Will I have to deal with Dell in the first year since they don't cover outside of U.S, or will the GSBTP coverage be enough in Canada?

You wouldn't have to even if you lived in the US.

Hello andd64!
Thanks for posting your question and welcome to the community!
Just to make things clear here is the verbiage from the terms and conditions: "To obtain repair or replacement service outside the United States or Canada, call Country Code + 800-556-56565. International service does not provide for in-home/on-site service, preventative maintenance checks, ADH Coverage or qualify as a repair under the No Lemon Policy."
You will not have to go through dell to utilize your Black Tie Protection.
Hope this helps!
