lets say I buy an Acer laptop in Michigan, will I get warranty coverage in Canada ?
(the performance plan, for 2 or 3 years)
will the bestbuys in Canada honour it ?
or would I have to drive back to the bestbuy (USA) that I bought the laptop from ?
(I live close to the border of Detroit, in WIndsor, Ontario, Canada)

If the GSBTP is purchased in the US, you can only bring it in to a US store for service. Otherwise, you'll have to call the int'l warranty number which will direct you to a local, third party service shop. You pay for repairs, then send in the receipt, and BB reimburses you.

i see, so I cannot purchase a warranty from a Bestbuy in Canada for that laptop..
also, how come only the 2 year GSBTP is available for these laptops:

would i be able to purchase a 3 year GSBTP, perhaps with accidental coverage ? because it doesnt show those options online..

Welcome to the forums! As Nokia answered, if you purchase the laptop and protection plan in the United States, you will need to have repairs done in the States, or have a third party repair and seek the reimbursement process. Your other alternative is to purchase the laptop and protection plan from a Best Buy® in Canada. Unfortunately, this site does not at this time offer support for our Canadian stores, however I would suggest you possibly visit your local Best Buy® Canada for more information.
