Black Tie vs AppleCare for Macbook

I want to understand fully before I decided to purchase from BB. I understand that the Black Tie coverage is greater in scope that Apple's, but I don't understand why it is so much more expensive when it covers less time. AppleCare adds 2 years onto my warrenty - giving a total 3 years coverage - for $250. Black Tie encompasses my warrenty, so for the first year it only covers the few things it offers beyond the warrenty coverage. If I have an issue that is covered by the manufacturer's warrenty, then it is not covered by Black Tie. And then I get one full year of extended warrenty plus Black Tie extras covered by BB. So only 2 years total coverage, and the first one only for the few things covered outside of the warrenty, for $350.

Am I missing something? If not, this seems like a really bad deal.

Re: Black Tie vs AppleCare for Macbook

The Geek Squad Black Tie Protection covers the normal wear and tear, heat, dust, humidity, power surge, accidental damage (advanced plan) and product replacement under the No Lemon Policy. If the plan is not used, the customer received a significant RewardZone point bonus at the end of the plan.

AppleCare covers parts and labor for the life of the plan. Battery is not included.

Re: Black Tie vs AppleCare for Macbook

Applecare doesn't cover accidental damage either, even if you buy their $250 warranty, there is no option for accidental coverage at all. While Blacktie does cover accidental damage for $99 per year ontop of each standard laptop plan. The most expensive plan Bestbuy has is $399 for pcs over $1200 (less of course for cheaper machines), thats full accidental coverage,  normal wear and tear, surge protection, battery replacement, power adaptor for that price. That $250 plan from apple??? Its the most basic coverage from a manufacturer for 3 years costing $250. The only advantage there is they're domestic and you don't have to ship them out for repairs (i.e. hp, toshiba, dell, sony, etc), if something is wrong but within their warranty, the machine remains in the Apple Store for repairs (most of the time)
