Will the $10 per month Best Buy Mobile insurance plan replace with a new/refurb unit a Palm Pre with a scratched screen and depressed power button due to being dropped by owner?

If the phone is already damaged you wouldn't be able to put the protection plan on it.

The GSBTP covers mfg. defects, normal wear and tear, dust, heat, humidity, power surge. It also covers drops and spills not due to negligence or abuse. The scratched screen would not be covered as it is cosmetic damage. If the button impairs the functionality of the device, then yes, it will be covered. However, it must first be sent in and repaired. If it is not economically feasible to repair, then it will be replaced with a new phone in-store.

While it’s unfortunate that your Palm Pre was damaged in the drop, it’s good that you have Geek Squad® Black Tie Protection (GSBTP)!  I’ll try to clarify what you can expect from your coverage.

While the monthly GSBTP plan for this type of cell phone does offer coverage for accidental damage, it doesn’t guarantee a replacement with a new or refurbished product.  It does provide for repair service for your phone, however. 

When you visit your local store and present your Pre for service, your phone will be sent to a service center to have any needed repairs completed.  Because we know that you can’t be unconnected these days, you may choose to take advantage of a loaner phone for which a deposit is required.  Please bear in mind that loaners provide basic phone features, not access to internet, or email and such.  Repairs are completed as quickly as possible so that you can get back to enjoying all the features of your Pre.
