Battery \ Adapter Lemon Policy

I would like to know why both a laptop battery and the adapter are considered accessories on my computer. Without either my computer wouldn't operate. So after I have had my LCD replaces twice, and a new power adapter (which I didn't think was the problem), I need a new battery and a new adapter, because it sparked nd now only charges 90%, but in real usage is about 40 minutes. So, I went in thinking of the Lemon Policy, because it says one part order=1 repair, so that means three. And I needed my computer fixed again, even though I'm sure it was the computer before they ordered the AC adapter. But they said it was an accessory and it doesn' qualify. So this would only be my 3rd repair. However, I couldn't get it repaired since I have many projects for school coming up and I need a computer to work on.

Why doesn't an adapter and battery qualify for the lemon policy? They should not be regarded as accessories.

(Not to mention my speakers crackle which I suppose is not covered at all)

Re: Battery \ Adapter Lemon Policy

Do you have a service plan? If you have a 2 year or higher, you are able to receive a free replacement batter and a free replacement AC adapter as part of your service plan.

Re: Battery \ Adapter Lemon Policy

Hello Sven37,

I’m sorry to hear about your computer problems.  There is little more frustrating to me than having to have my much needed products serviced.

You’re quite right in that either the battery or the power adaptor (at the very least) is required for the operation of the computer.  However, these two components are user-accessible and don’t require the intervention of a technician to install or replace.  If an internal hardware component is replaced (i.e. a hard drive, motherboard, etc), then it is a qualifying repair.

While your Performance Service Plan brochure does state that “one service request number, requiring functional part(s) repair/replacement is the equivalent of one repair,” it further stipulates which components are not considered repairs for the purposes of the No Lemon policy, including laptop batteries and accessories such as power adaptors.

We will happily address any concerns you have regarding the repair of your computer (including the malfunctioning speakers) if you visit the Geek Squad® counter at your local store.

I hope this helps.  If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to let us know!

Sincerely,
John|Community Connector | Best Buy® Corporate
