Adapter/Charger Malfunction

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 that I bought in January 2009, but yesterday (August 17th) the adapter stopped working: now the little blue light doesn't turn on when I plug it in, and the battery isn't charged. I have tried several wall outlets, but the adapter doesn't work in any of them (but other appliances work, so the problem must be with the adapter).

Now, I was wondering what the next step is. Since it's been less than a year, the laptop is under a manufacturer's warranty, but is the process any different because there is a problem with the adapter rather than the laptop itself?

Do I take it to BB, and is the receipt needed?

Thank you.

Re: Adapter/Charger Malfunction

Yes, you will take it into your local BB. If you purchased it with anything other than cash, there should be no problem looking up your receipt at the store, but yes, it will be needed. Bring both the laptop and the adapter.

Thank you. So the adapter can be repaired/replaced at no charge? I need it before school starts.

Re: Adapter/Charger Malfunction

I am not able to confirm whether that is the case, as I am not entirely familiar with Dell's warranty, but I couldn't imagine it not being covered. Also, it may need to be sent out for repair before replacement is considered.

Re: Adapter/Charger Malfunction

Hey there! If the unit is less than 1 year old, our PartSearch team at 1-888-BestBuy would be the group to order your power cord and bill it to Dell's Warranty. We would not be able to do this in store.

Re: Adapter/Charger Malfunction

So, what you're saying is, I should just call the number, not come to the store, and the adapter will be replaced?

How long would it take for the cord to arrive?

Re: Adapter/Charger Malfunction

Yes, and it should take about 7 days or so to reach your house.

Thank you very much.

Do I need the receipt when calling that number?

Re: Adapter/Charger Malfunction

You're welcome! It would make it go quicker but the rep on the phone can lookup your receipt.

Re: Adapter/Charger Malfunction

Thank you. They will send a new power cord to my house, with an envelope to send back the old one (postage paid).
